December 9, 1950 ~ December 8, 2016

Fred was born Dec. 9, 1950 to Ralph and Phyllis Olsen in Portland, OR and passed away Dec. 8, 2016 in Portland. He graduated from Columbia River High School in Vancouver, WA in 1969 and attended Clark Community College.
Fred worked for Fred Meyer in Battle Ground, WA. He was well liked by his co-workers and had many friendly relationships with the customers. He was quick with a greeting or a handshake.
Fred loved the outdoors, especially backpacking trips. He hiked Goat Rocks, North Cascades, The Ptarmigan Traverse, Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens, and many local day trips. Fred was a runner and loved the trails at Lewisville Park in Battle Ground, rarely missing his dedicated three days a week runs. He also ran The Portland Marathon, Cascade Run Off, Columbia River Run, Hood to Coast relay race, Harvest Day Milk Run and had belonged to the Clark County track club. He enjoyed golf and watching the Chicago Cubs win the world series this year. Fred also enjoyed his home improvement projects and always had something new in mind.
Fred had a great sense of humor, having a funny story or joke to share. He kept his humor through the several weeks in the hospital pulling a smile or chuckle from the hospital staff.
Fred was a loving family man.
He will be greatly missed.
He and his wife Alice, of forty years, lived in the Battle Ground area. Together they had two sons, Nicholas of Vancouver and Kyle of Battle Ground; brother, Ralph of Vancouver; brother-in-law, Arvid Johnson (Bobi) of Battle Ground, WA; sister-in-law, Joan Johnson of Arlington, WA; several loving nieces and nephew; and close friends and family who visited and supported him through his illness.
A Celebration of Life will be at Messiah Lutheran Church 905 NW 94th St., Vancouver, WA, Thurs., Dec. 15th at 10:30 a.m., with a lunch reception to follow.
