Eugene ”Gene” James Moriarty, 85, a lifelong resident of Clark County, WA, passed away Sat., Jan. 5, 2019 in Vancouver, WA. He was born July 2, 1933 and raised by his mother, Irene Moriarty.
Gene attended Providence Academy for 8 years, serving as an alter boy at Proto St. James Cathedral and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1951 in Portland, OR.
He served in the U.S. Army and retired in 1987 from the Bell Telephone System after 36 years.
Gene married Mary Jane Salek on June 22, 1976 in Wauwatosa, WI, bringing her to his beloved Pacific NW.
Gene and Mary Jane especially enjoyed cruising to Alaska and through the Panama Canal. Working with his hands gave Gene a great deal of joy whether gardening, forming rock walls or woodworking. He spent many happy hours golfing and fishing at the Kalama Sportsmen’s Club where he was a long time member.
Survivors include his wife Mary Jane of 43 years; sisters-in-law, Catherine Salek and Edna Keksi; nieces, Lydia Keksi and Beth Woolsey (Devin); nephews, Chris Keksi (Debby) and John Keksi (Francie); great-niece, Elizabeth; and great-nephews, Casey and Brian.
Viewing will be held Wed., Jan. 16, 2019 between 1-4 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. A burial Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 400 S. Andresen Rd. on Thurs., Jan. 17, 2019 at 11 a.m., preceded by the Rosary at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens at 1:30 p.m.
