ETHEL MARIE MICKEY
November 2, 1921 ~ June 6, 2015

Ethel Marie Mickey died peacefully from heart disease at her home in Vancouver, WA on June 6th, 2015, at the age of 93. She was born and raised in Iowa, where she met her future husband, Charles Mickey.
Marie loved children, and started her teaching career in Iowa before she and Charles moved to Washington state where he had been stationed in the Coast Guard during World War II. She and Charles were married 74 years, raising three children.
Marie received her BA degree in Education from the University of Portland and taught in the Vancouver School District for many years. While teaching and raising a family, she went back to school and earned her Master's degree in Library Science, continuing in that field until her retirement.
Marie was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed a variety of needlework. She also enjoyed golf, swimming, gardening, hiking, and traveling with her husband Charles. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for many years, and supported several charitable organizations.
Marie is survived by her husband, Charles; son, Donald Mickey (Stephanie); daughter, Barbara King (Ken); two brothers, Ray and Paul; two sisters, Evelyn and Ruth; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard; and grandson, Eric.
The Mickey family extends sincere thanks to the wonderful care given to Marie and her family by the Kaiser Home-Hospice team.
In lieu of a memorial service, contributions may be made in memory of Ethel M. Mickey to the First United Methodist Church, 401 East 33rd St., Vancouver, WA, 98663 for charitable outreach programs.
