Elaine Mellert, 97, passed away in Eureka, CA on February 20, 2011. She was born August 30, 1913 in Egypt, WA. Elaine was a 1932 graduate of Davenport High School and a 1936 graduate from Northwestern Business College, Spokane, WA.
Elaine was a Camas, WA resident from 1946-2002. She grew beautiful flowers and a bountiful vegetable garden, always willing to share a plant start and encourage a beginner gardener. She enjoyed baking and was known for her delicious cookies and huckleberry pies. Elaine loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Germany to visit family. She was an active member in Zion Lutheran Church in Camas. She later volunteered at Southwest WA Medical Center in Vancouver and became a strong advocate for volunteering. In 2002 she moved to Vancouver and in 2010 to Eureka, CA.
Elaine is survived by her daughter, Lois Mellert, of Eureka, CA; twin sisters, Gladys Huffman of Vancouver, WA and Grace Rutherford, of Yakima, WA; brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Edith Reinbold, of Davenport, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews and family in Germany.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Ernest, who died in 1990 at the age of 81.
A memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Camas, WA at 2:00 p.m. on Friday the 29th of April.
