~ In Loving Memory ~

Edward Joseph Stein, 54, died at home on July 22, 2018. He was a native resident of Vancouver, Washington and left behind numerous friends and family.
Ed attended St. Joseph, McLaughlin Jr. and Fort Vancouver High schools. During these childhood years, he is remembered by his classmates and family for his enormous competitive spirit for sports, especially football, in which he received numerous awards, including the Golden Helmet award in 1979.
After school, because of his great love for adventure and the outdoors, he left Vancouver and started his professional career working on commercial fishing boats off the shore of Alaska, in the Bering Strait. During the off season, he would return to Vancouver to work for his father, Ray Stein, at Stein Properties.
After retiring from fishing, he began working as a truck driver, for Reddaway Trucking, in Clackamas, Oregon. He was a proud and active member of the Teamsters Union. Due to his loyalty and commitment to his job, he was often referred to by his coworkers with the nickname, "Ed-away".
In the last decade of his life, Ed fought a hard and difficult battle with Leukemia. Although he gained remission, he was left with many medical complications, later leading to his death.
Ed will always be remembered as an intelligent
and good humored man with a laugh
that was very contagious to others around him.
He was an avid reader with particular interests in World War II military history, as well as current events. His other hobbies included traveling, camping and boating.
Ed leaves behind his parents, Raymond G. and Carmen Stein; two sisters, Teresa Stein Brett and Maggie Stein Harter; and one brother, Raymond "Philip" Stein, all residents of Vancouver, Washington.
