"Don was a kind and knowledgeable man who lived his life with intention and purpose."

Don Berryhill, 91, of Vancouver, WA, passed away Sept. 15, 2016. He was born June 29, 1925 in Gresham, NE.
Don joined the U.S. Navy at 17 and honorably served with the Armed Guard as a radioman in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. He survived Kamikaze attacks at Leyte (Philippines) and received a Letter of Commendation from the Chief of Naval Personnel.
Don married the love of his life, Evelyn, in 1950 and went on to graduate from Oregon State University in 1951.
After retiring as Area Superintendent for Del Monte in 1983, he volunteered for a variety of organizations including the Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels, and also tutored children and adults to improve literacy skills. He was an avid history buff, woodworker, gardener, and nature lover. He enjoyed hiking with his wife and also worked to restore and maintain hiking trails.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn; four children, Kris Zorko (Bob), Dave Berryhill (Sue), Jim Berryhill, and Carol Berryhill; as well as four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved him.

Don was the kind of boss you would want to work for! As Del Monte was closing the Vancouver plant Don and I were the last two employees. On the last day He said to me "We were key employees and had the job of mailing the keys to San Francisco" I could not of had a better boss! Dick Rowan

One of the good bosses I had at Del Monte. I enjoyed working
with Don for several years, and were friends for many years
after we retired.

I first met Don when I started with Del Monte Corporation in 1971. Throughout Don's long career with Del Monte, he was instrumental in guiding and developing many careers, including my own as I was transferred out of the area in 1980. I often quoted Don's sage advice during my career as he was a focused and dedicated manager that cared deeply for his employees and colleagues alike. During the pear processing season, I always knew I would find Don every day without fail at 4 a.m. checking the condition of the ripening fruit. I will always remain beholding to Don for his guidance and tutelage. Rest in peace my friend.
