CHARLES BARRY PICKETT
December 4, 1946 ~ April 1, 2011

Charles Barry Pickett, 64, passed away suddenly in Stilwell, Kansas on Friday, April 1, 2011. He was born in Port Townsend, WA to Charles B. and Xenia C. Pickett.
At a young age, the family moved to Vancouver, WA, where he attended Lieser Elementary School, McLoughlin Jr. High, and graduated from Hudson Bay High School in 1964.
He then married his high school sweetheart Sandra Lauderdale and had two children Michelle and Gordon. They later divorced.
Barry spent his career in the US Army where he was a helicopter test pilot and served in the Vietnam conflict where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He then married Janie Johnson and had two children Karl and Hannah, and retired in 1989 as a Chief Warrant Officer after serving his country for 21 years.
Barry then went to work for the BNSF Railroad where he worked for 12 years as a conductor and engineer before retiring in 2010 to be a Kansas farmer. He received his BS in Aviation Management and was a proud member of the United Transportation Union.
He was preceded in death by his father Charles Pickett and son Gordon Pickett. His mother Xenia Pickett Skaggs passed away three weeks later on April 26, 2011.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years Janie Johnson-Pickett; son Karl Johnson-Pickett, Emporia, KS; daughters Michelle Pickett Matheson and her husband Mick of Monroe, WA, Hannah Johnson-Pickett, Manhattan, KS; brothers and sister-in-laws Tom and Pat Pickett, Vancouver, WA; Steve and Sondra Pickett Vancouver, WA., 3 granddaughters McKenna, Marissa, and Matilda Matheson and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.
