Betty L. McManus, 80 years young, passed away at SW Washington Medical Center on Feb 13th, 2011, due to heart disease. She was born on July 19th, 1930 in Victoria, B.C. to parents Harold and Elizabeth Jackson. She remained in Victoria until the age of 25.
The early 50's were a wonderful, busy time for Betty: she married the love of her life, Raymond, in 1950. In '51, Ray and Betty welcomed their only child Diane into the world. The couple moved to this area from Victoria in '55. Betty and Ray ("Shorty" as he was known to his friends in the Boise Cascade Mill) remained here in the metro area for the rest of their lives. Sadly, we lost Ray much too early in June of 1987 and Betty never remarried.
Betty spent many, many days and nights camping in the Toutle area with family and friends. She was very fond of the Oregon and Washington coasts and absolutely loved a good game of cards. She took pleasure in a good read, and spent hour upon hour solving jigsaw puzzles with daughter Diane. There was not an unsolved puzzle to be found in the house.
Even though Betty lived here for over of 50 years, she remained a loyal Canadian at heart. She often enjoyed high tea at Pomeroy House, and at Myrtles' Tea house in Ridgefield. Even after all those years living stateside, she still spoke with that catchy north of the border accent that we all loved so much, eh.
Betty very much enjoyed living here in our little corner of the Pacific Northwest, and she especially loved the rain. Fittingly, it was pouring buckets on the day of her passing. Whenever it rains, she will be in our thoughts...
Betty is survived by daughter, Diane and son-in-law, Robert Fritz; by three grandchildren: Rick (Lori) Fritz, Daniel (Cindy) Fritz, and Darla (Craig) Alia; six great-grandchildren; and two 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her childhood friend of 69 years, Eve (Al) Wilson, of Victoria, B.C.
Betty was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Per her request, no services are to be held. Davies cremation and burial services is in charge of arrangements.
