ALLEN ARNOLD JOHNSON
April 29, 1927 ˜ December 12, 2020
Allen Arnold Johnson was born April 29, 1927, in Milwaukee, WI, to parents, Edwin Hjalmer Johnson and Saima Elizabeth Johnson (Patron). He passed away Dec. 12, 2020.
He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the last years of the second World War. In 1955, he married the love of his life, Mary Gwendolyn Harris. Several years after marriage Allen and Mary welcomed their son, James, to whom they were forever devoted.
Allen worked in the rail industry for more than 35 years. He began in the rail yards at Spokane Portland & Seattle Railway (SP&S) and over the years became supervisor of administration with Burlington Northern (BSNF).
Allen’s joyous life was filled with purpose and fellowship through his active involvement as a Freemason and Shriner. His membership in these fraternal organizations and selfless commitment to helping others was deeply important.
Allen was extremely proud of his Finnish heritage and exemplified a person who lives their life with “sisu:” determination, tenacity of purpose, bravery and resilience.
Allen is preceded in death by his wife, father and mother, sister, Yvonne Johnson; and brother, Donald Johnson.
He is survived by his son, James Johnson; sister, Mary Ann Steffani; sister-in-law, Lois Johnson; cousin, Adrienne Gorman and many beloved nieces and nephews.
His family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at Cherry Blossom Cottage who lovingly embraced and cared for him throughout his residency. His love of life, family and friends, community, animals and a great gin martini will never be forgotten.
Funeral arrangements are being made through Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes. In honor of his military service, he will be privately interred at Willamette National Cemetery.

He was a great neighbor and friend. Always gave us a poinsettia plant at Christmas and Lily at Easter, told us when we left the garage door up at evening, was helpful when we needed help. He really had a kind heart. We were neighbors for about 35 years so were blessed by Allen and Mary and Jim. Condolences to all the family members especially his son Jim and sister Mary Ann.

It’s so hard to lose a parent, especially around the holidays. May your many loving memories of your father bring a smile when feeling sad. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

Dear Mary Ann,
I am thinking of you as you grieve the death of your brother Allen. Karen passed in March 2011 and I know how difficult it is to have a sibling pass. Thinking of you. Daphne
