RUSSELL "RUSS" DONATHAN DILLMAN
December 6, 1948 ~ July 28, 2015

Russell Donathan Dillman was born on Dec. 6, 1948 on the U.S.S. Repose off the coast of Qingdao, China, the first child and only son to Carolyn T. Ivey Dillman and Theodore E. Dillman, who was serving as a doctor in the U.S. Navy at the time. Russ set sail to other shores on Tuesday, July 28, 2015.

Russ grew up in Vancouver, WA, graduating from Hudson's Bay High School in 1967, and completing a B.S. degree in Psychology at Central Washington University. He later earned his Master's in Teaching at Lewis and Clark College.

Career paths found him serving in the fields of mental-health, education (high-school: Franklin H.S., Portland, OR), and academic text-book sales for McDougal-Littell.

Russ had several passions: he was a reader of poetry and literature; an avid traveler; a connoisseur of jazz-he, himself, played saxophone and piano; a lover of the outdoors and gardening; a fan of puzzles and games; a golfer and a bowler; and a dedicated volunteer with the Friends of Trees. He loved "his girls" (daughters, sisters/step-sisters, significant-others) and adored his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He knew no strangers.

Russ is survived by three daughters: Gretchen (Martin) Keith, Sarah (Chris) Collmer, and Samantha (Ben) Pike; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four sisters: Lauren, Lyn, Andrea (Tracy), and Kass (Dan); one step-sister, Susan (Butch); nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends.

A celebration of Russ's life will be held from 1-5 p.m. on Aug. 9th at 9604 NE 212th Ave., Vancouver, 98682. Ceremony at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Russ's honor to Friends of Trees, 3117 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland, OR 97212.

The family gives heartfelt thanks to the staff at Marquis Care at Mt. Tabor for his care during these many months.
