PHILLIP ALAN HERRON
November 8, 1946 ~ March 5, 2017
"Phillip's life was quite an adventure
with many accomplishments and events."
Phillip Alan Herron was born to Clifford J. Herron and Waunita M. Brown on Nov. 8th, 1946 at Wray, Yuma County, CO. The family lived on a farm S.E. of Yuma, CO. He was joined by two siblings, Lorena and David. Phillip started school in Yuma, CO. His family moved several times and in 1959 moved to Victor, MT where he completed grade school, then graduated from high school. He was very active in his class, was in several plays, and went to Boys State at Bozeman, MT. He was manager of the Victor High School basketball and football team for several years and was president of his sophomore class. Phillip thoroughly enjoyed his many friends in Victor and was reluctant to leave when his family moved to Battle Ground, WA in 1964.
Phillip attended Clark Community College several years and graduated. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1966 and served on the USS St. Francis River in the Vietnam War. The St. Frances River provided rocket fire in support of Allied forces fighting along the coast and in the Mekong Delta area. He rose in rank to Petty Officer 3rd Class, and was a Gunfire Control Tech. He was separated from service, with an honorable discharge, in March 1970, after serving three years.
Phillip came back to Vancouver, WA and went to college on the GI Bill, then went to work for Philco Ford Corporation. After training in California, he was sent to the Seychelles Islands, off the coast of Africa, where he enjoyed tracking satellites and riding his motorcycle on a beautiful island. He was there when the Queen of England came to visit the Seychelles and saw all the fanfare. He decided to come back to the U.S. and to take a vacation on the way home, through Europe, Africa and Canada. He came home to Vancouver, later moving to Beaverton, OR and working for Tektronix Inc. for the next ten years. Phillip took many classes and trainings at Tektonix, Inc. and did trouble shooting electronic systems in various parts of the U.S. He loved his job, but resigned in 1986, to pursue other ventures. He moved to Battle Ground, WA and for some time wrote and sold software.
Phillip loved computers and could fix any problems that they presented, setting his mother's accounting business up on a computer in the early years of personal computers. He kept her computer systems up and running for many years. Among his many interests and hobbies was photography, taking hundreds of pictures. He was an avid reader, interested in world events and enjoyed woodworking. Phillip enjoyed living in the country and also mowing a large yard on a riding lawn mower. He went back to Victor, MT for two class reunions and greatly enjoyed seeing his old friends, with whom he kept in touch through the years. Phillip enjoyed his family, coming to visit his mother and sister in Battle Ground, WA almost every week. He also went to Rainier, WA to visit his brother.
Phillip is survived by his mother, Waunita M. Herron; sister, Lorena M. Herron; brother, David L. Herron; and three nephews, Bryant F. Herron-Patmon, Adam L. Herron-Patmon and Jay M. Herron. He was preceded in death by his father.
Graveside service was held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

That I saw a ship a sailing
The sea was calm
Phillip was young
And he was at the rail."---rs

My heart is sad. Phillip was a friend to me at a hard time in my life. He, his mother, and his sister were wonderful to me and I will never forget. What makes me saddest is for years I have wanted to go see him and something always got in the way.My heart is broken.
