JANET ANN (BURNS) BUSCEMI
November 10, 1934 ~ January 8, 2018
Janet was born in Oakland, California to her parents Robert E. Burns and Margaret (Volk) Burns. Although living in California, she spent many summers with grandparents, uncles and aunts in Portland, Oregon. She was a Holy Names girl graduating in 1953.
At the young age of 19 she met G. Jerry Buscemi, fell in love, married, and they had a strong loving relationship for 64 years. They originally lived in Oakland, and in 1974 moved to Walnut Creek, California before moving to Vancouver, Washington in 1995.
Janet was known for her consideration, empathy and compassion for others, especially the less fortunate. She had many special charities that she supported.
Janet was a member of the Clark County Newcomers Organization for over 20 years, and a past Woman of the Year. A very social person, she loved to travel world-wide to many countries, enjoying the people, cultures, architecture and various foods. She loved to read and was an active member of a local book club.
Janet was a loving and loyal wife and is survived by her husband Jerry; sister, Gayle Kennon; sons, Tony (wife Lisa), Marc (wife Tina), and Paul (wife Cristina); and grand- children Alexander, William, Matthew, Trinity, and many nieces and nephews who will greatly miss her humor and kindness and will always admire her courage, strength, and self sacrifice.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 6600 Highland Dr., Vancouver at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018. Following the mass a reception will be held in the St. John Bosco room at the Church.
It's important to note that all EMT's, Ambulance personnel, Nurses and Doctors were outstanding in their service and efforts to save Janet……. We very much thank them!

Janet and Jerry were the first people to welcome us to Newcomers when we went on our first excursion to the Seafood Festival at the coast in 2004. We have never forgotten their friendliness.
And I have always looked forward to visiting with Janet at other Newcomer events. She was a very special lady. Our condolences to you Jerry.

Aunt Janet,
I have so many wonderful memories spent with you, especially around the holidays. From searching for Easter eggs in the backyard of your Walnut Creek home when I was little, to you hosting my wedding shower, and letting my boys play in your living room, you have always opened your home and welcomed us with open arms. Your generosity and thoughtfulness have meant so much. We will miss you. Our love goes to Jerry and your family. Love, Lisa, Eric, Tyler and Brandon

I have many fond memories of "Aunt" Janet. While not really my aunt you wouldn't know it. When I moved to CA as a young man, I stayed with Alan, Gayle and their family We went for Christmas dinner at Jerry and Janet's and while Janet didn't even know me, she bought me a bottle of British Sterling cologne as a gift. I still use that brand and think of her often because of it. There were many other gatherings and acts of kindness - what an inspiration and role model; she lives on in my heart.

I do not know how to express how much you have ment to me. You are a great example of a strong women and a great mom and loving grandmother. There is a big hole in my heart. I will always remember the love and care you gave to Matt and Will when they were babies and how much you loved them. I will hopefully be able to follow your example in leading a life of grace and love. Love your daughter-in-law Cristina (Tina)

My Mom has always been such an inspiration for me and always will remain so, through her kindness, her constant consideration for others and her strength. She lived a great life and even overcame big obstacles during her time here. She demonstrated her gratitude for it by endlessly thinking of others. I know her mom, Margaret, must have been and is so proud of her daughter. Thank you Momfor everything. I will miss you everyday.

Janet was a special person and a very beloved friend. She was one of the first to welcome us to Vancouver 16 years ago, and we are so blessed that she was in our lives. Jan was beautiful, inside and out..generous, kind and slightly irreverent! We loved her dearly and will miss her greatly. Always in our hearts, forever in our memories. Our condolences to Jerry and the family.

This is a beautiful tribute. May she rest in peace. I was looking forward to seeing her this fall. In our recent phone call, she said they may be coming up in the fall. Well, she will be here in spirit, our memories. God bless you Janet and family.
Prayers were included in our mass intentions and will be added to our prayer circle.

As I know her, my Aunt Janet. Beautiful, fun and loving. Welcoming to all. Kept touch with me and my siblings. Never forgetting a birthday with full updates of her beloved family and grandchildren. Supportive and positive encouragement when I had cancer (prior to hers). Had her open home for us to come visit and stay. Stories, laughter and always a recommendation to not miss out on something in life. Love her dearly her niece ~ Kim Buscemi Cowell

Janet was a wonderful woman and grandmother. Witty, determined, strong willed, and kind she never took no for an answer and fought off stage four lung cancer for years. I am so proud and grateful to have known her and loved her. I will always keep you in my heart grandma.

Tony and family - I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. There is nothing like the love of a mother for her children. Your mother sounds like an amazing woman. I know you will all miss her terribly. Rest in the knowledge that love never dies. She has just gone to "a different room." She loves you from there and you can still love her though she is not in your embrace. God bless you all on the journey.

It is all the little things that flow through my mind; making breakfast one weekends, coffee in the morning, preparing for guests, hanging clothes on the line, the smile, the scold, the joy being with her family and friends. My last hug and kiss good bye. My Mom was so much love and deep care for everyone.
