George Frangos Obituary

GEORGE A. FRANGOS
October 28, 1930 ˜ October 24, 2018

George was born in Portland, Oregon, and attended Milwaukie High School. After earning a diploma, he went in the US Coast Guard where he served on the east coast and met his bride to be, Mary U. Miller formerly of Springfield, MA. He finished his tour aboard “The Citrus” stationed in Alaska, as a Gunner’s Mate and earned a good Conduct Medal upon discharge.
He was first an apprentice pressman at The Oregonian newspaper in Portland, OR, then worked for the Columbian Newspaper for 40 years, rising from apprentice pressman to Vice President for Production.
He and his family lived in Vancouver, WA for 61 years, and in the South Cliff neighborhood for 40 years where together, George and Mary made many good friends and enjoyed their neighbors. In retirement he enjoyed gardening and travel with his wife.
The family remembers him as a loyal and devoted husband, father, and brother.
George is survived by devoted wife Mary (neé Miller) of 61 years; son, Scott Frangos of Vancouver, and sister Donna Jean Frangos of Milwaukie.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2018 between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., at Springwood Landing, 136th and Mill Plain, Vancouver, WA.
The family asks that those that wish to donate in memory of George, do so to the National Osteoporosis Society at https://www.nof.org/

Memories and Condolences
for George Frangos

Not sure what to say?

George was one-of-a-kind!!! He will be missed by many. I can truly say he was a great boss (even though he always said I worked with him & not for him) and friend. I wish comfort and love to both Mary & Scott.

Condolences on the loss of a good man, a loving husband and devoted father. I hope your memories of him will help to fill the quiet times when you are alone and bring you peace, and guide you through the many "firsts" that are to come.

A funny, warm and wonderful person, George exemplified what it meant to be a true gentleman. I am blessed to have worked with this fine man for many years at The Columbian. I can see him racing around Heaven on his motorcycle with a big smile on his face. Prayers and healing thoughts to his beloved Mary and the family.

I will always remember George's smile and sense of humor- I am so thankful that we re-connected a couple of years ago after losing touch for so long. The one thing that I will never forget is the way he always looked at his beloved Mary- I don't know if I have ever seen anyone who loved his wife more than he did; it was truly something wonderful to witness.
My love and prayers for Mary and Scott as they learn to navigate life without him. ❤

My heart is heavy for you Mary and Scott. I can see the party in heaven and all those important to George waiting for him with open arms and maybe a joke or two. He will be missed by many and was loved by even more. Prayes for strength during this difficult time. With much love to you both, Lonna

He was my only uncle and was so loved. I and our family will miss him so. I have so many memories of him. This week we have been toasting him with Yukon Jack, his favorite.
I am also sad for my Aunt Mary and cousin Scott. He would be very proud of the way they have handled his death. Our love to them.
