EILEEN DORIS (SUNDEM) WALTERBR September 4, 1921 ~ August 7, 2017
Eileen Doris (Sundem) Walter, 95, of Vancouver, WA, passed away on August 7, 2017. She was born September 4, 1921, in Sherman, SD, to Martin Halvor Sundem and Louise (Hoven) Sundem, the third of six children. Eileen graduated from Fort Vancouver High School in 1939.
She married Donald Arlie Walter on October 3, 1940. They were married 73 years.
After graduating from Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada, Donald and Eileen spent 40 years in Japan as missionaries, arriving in 1949, shortly after WWII. Their children Paul and Lois (Swanson) were both born in Japan. After coming back to the States in 1989, Donald and Eileen worked with international students and attended Japan International Baptist Church in Tigard, OR.
Eileen is survived by her siblings, Martin Sundem, Lucile Stanfield and George Sundem; her children, Paul (Debbie) Walter and Lois (Craig) Swanson; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Norris and Leone Planting.
Her motto was "Crucified with Christ,"
and she lived a life of self sacrifice in order to help
and encourage those around her.
The funeral service and internment will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on August 11, 2017, at 12:30.
