Dearest Sweeney Family,
We wondered when we saw the emergency vehicles go by - only to learn of Doug's passing. Though we didn't know Doug, I am sure he was one of the group going by on his longboard. Know that they were always laughing and being teenage boys! Remember this in the days to come and may you find strength in each other. Our hearts go out to you. From our family to yours with love.

My heart breaks for you and the family having to endure such a loss. Lean on your family and friends as you grieve and know you are close in our hearts as we grieve the loss of our own son Hunter. I wanted to share with you some bible versus that brought us comfort:
They are all from the NIV version bible

2 Peter 3:8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: with the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

Psalm 90:4 For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.

Psalm 84:10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere.(Better is a day in his presence, in exhuberating happiness, than to spend a thousand here!!!)

So, I did some math for you. If you, say, live here a maximum of 40 more years, which would put you at 80:) years old, I figured that it will be 57.6 minutes that passed for Doug. We are usually gone from our children that long just to go to the grocery store, right? So, for Doug, you are at the grocery store. He has been left with the best babysitter of all, Jesus to spend some time!!! And, when you leave the grocery store, you are coming to get him......

I knew Doug from martial arts, always happy cheering me and our friend Katelynne up. Always making us smile. Even when we would travel to the mall and perform our ninja moves there on christmas we did and wore cute little elf costumes. Not one time did Doug complain about wearing a little, dorky elf costume with us girls. He loved it, and brought out the best of it. Love you always and forever Douglas Robert Sweeney!

We were blessed by the service at Crossroads Church. Real thankful we came up and we thank you for including us. The family work flurry on Friday with everyone doing a part was a sweet moment. PR commented that it was good to get to be at a Sweeney/Reed family reunion though under tragic circumstances. Grace in the House of Mourning...Love from Dave, Nanci, Paul Reed, Cory, Maki

Doug, I didn't know you well at all, but you have made a huge impact on me. You taught me not to let words go unspoken and to make sure to tell the ones I care for, that I love them and cherish them in my life. Thank you for all your smiles with school year; that smile will be greatly missed.
