DALE EUGENE BUCK
August 21, 1954 ~ June 18, 2015
"Dale was a kind and gentle father,
a loving husband, a true and loyal friend,
a mentor to scores of young people, a man of few words, but the words he spoke were essential."
Dale Eugene Buck, 60, born in Vancouver, WA, was tragically killed last Thurs., June 18, 2015.
Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Dale Buck, loved him. He was an artist in the truest sense of the word. Dale left a legacy of elegant stonework throughout Washington, Oregon and Alaska. He was a painter, a poet, and a landscape artist of epic proportions. If you ever visited their five acre home in Ridgefield, WA of 30 years, you would have marveled at the grace and elegance this man could finesse out of a pile of rocks and logs and earth.
But even all of his visual artistry is dwarfed
by the artistry with which he crafted his relationships to the people in his life, because Dale saw
everything and everybody through a lense of love.
We miss him so much.
Dale is survived by his wife, Susan Degenhardt-Buck; their three children, Benjamin Buck, Sarah Buck, and Nicholas Buck; his mother, Kathleen Buck-Cooper; brothers, John Buck, Don Buck, Tom Buck, and Tim Buck; and sisters, Susan Buck and Mary Hart.
If you would like to help us celebrate his amazing life, please join us on Thurs., June 25, 12-6 p.m. at: Peterson Farms (red barn), 1605 Caples Road, Woodland, WA 98674.

Words are difficult to find at a time like this. Ramone told me about your sudden, tragic loss and I just want you and your family to know that you have been in my thoughts and prayers. Continue to surround yourself with those you love and just take each day at a time.

Dear Sue and Family,
Terry and I just learned about the tragic loss of Dale, we were away. Great man, coach, neighbor, friend of all who knew the talented Dale. He is a long time good memory in our entire family starting with our trees, Ben's first coach in soccer, and always happy to swap family comings and goings with. We are so... lucky to have worked with Dale just a few weeks ago as you know and catch up. We feel his absence greatly and from family to family stay close.
Sorry for your loss. Love the Gertsens

I have been blessed to have Dale & the Buck family welcome me with open arms into their home and come to my rescue time after time. Your marriage and family have acted as a model and aspiration for my own. Your countless words of wisdom will stay with me forever. Dale was a wonderful, peaceful soul. He was so very welcoming and always gave a great hug whether you were coming or going. I loved hearing the stories he shared with my husband, Wally, about their adventures over the last 50 years of doing life together. Wally teased him relentlessly and Dale always had a twinkle in his eye and a ready smile. In my short 3 1/2 years of knowing Dale and Sue, I fell in love with their story and admired their marriage and family.
The Buck family got together just a few weekends prior to the accident. I was very aware of details of that day as I talked with everyone... more so than usual. I noticed in particular that Dale was serving everyone, tending to everyone's needs, feeding them... even though he himself could not eat or even drink beer. He had a medical procedure scheduled for the following day and he was fasting... he had the willpower of steel while continuing to serve everyone. I was touched to find out that stories of his service to his friends, family, and even mere acquaintances were coming out of the woodwork. Dale had a servant's heart. What a great legacy he left behind... a wake of infinite love in the hearts of his family and friends. I am honored to have known and loved him.

So sorry to all the Buck family and friends. We will miss that man tremendously. We just loved him and his family. Was so wonderful to spend a week with him in our home in Alaska in May, while he and my husband worked together landscaping our place. And what a beautiful job he did. Everytime we look out there we will see Dale. What an impact he and his family has left on so many peoples lives. I'm sure he's smiling down at us all from heaven. Love you guys.

The Bucks were instrumental in welcoming our family to Ridgefield so many years ago. Dale was a great role model to one of my boys, Ryan, and he learned many life lessons while being around him. I will always remember how proud he was of Nick when Nick competed in the Washington state high school soccer tournament. We will miss his presence around town. Our thoughts are with the Buck family.

I cannot express the deep sorrow felt by this loss. The Bucks have taken me into their family and treated me like their own for many years. I know that I am only one of many who have been loved by them in this way. We made many memories together and I was able to see just how much Dale loved his family and their friends. He went out of his way to show his love for me and I will never forget him.

Just being around Dale was peaceful and serene...spending time at his home among the beautiful landscape that he created. To know him and spend time with him was such a privilege. My daughter was blessed to have him as her God parent, "Uncle", friend, mentor and most of all her bullfrog buddy. He was the best frog catcher ever! Our hearts will forever be heavy but our spirits will always be lifted by the wonderful memories Dale gave us.

I only met Dale a few times while at Lucy's Garden, his next door neighbors. He helped build many areas of that beautiful venue. Every person that strolls along the main path or gazes at the rock walls will be enjoying his talents in landscape design work. A beautiful soul has moved on to a bigger design venue and will be greatly missed.
