EVEA E. (STAPLES) WINSTON
April 5, 1917 ~ April 29, 2017
Evea Ethelyne Winston, born April 5, 1917 in Tuleta, Texas, daughter of Carlton Ernest and Bonnie Staples, passed away in Vancouver, WA on April 29, 2017. She grew up in Texas, where she met her husband, Clellan Winston, and they were married on August 12, 1944.
The family moved to Meadow Glade in 1946, where her husband had roots. In the early years of her marriage, Evea worked with Clellan's aunt in the nursing home in Meadow Glade. Later on, she went to work in bookkeeping for Peterson Motors for 10 years, and then the Clark County Treasurers Office for over 16 years.
She is survived by a son, Carlton Winston (wife Peggy) of Vancouver; three grandchildren, all of Clark County: Deanna Stevens (husband Bobby), Christopher Winston, Kari Weller (husband Mark); step-granddaughter, Mary Tierney (husband Bob) of Atmore, Alabama; five great-grandchildren: Bryan Stevens (wife Felicia), Nathan and Elizabeth Winston, Connor and Justin Weller; step-grandchildren: Austin Johnston and Matthew Tierney. Also, she was recently blessed with a great-great-granddaughter, Emma Stevens. Surviving brothers are Perry Staples of Seguin, Texas, Don Staples of Brantley, Alabama, and Royce "Smokey" Staples of Vancouver.
Preceding Evea in death were her husband, Clellan, in 1998; a brother, Carlton Staples; and two sisters, Irma Lea Gohlke and Iris Ball.
Evea enjoyed gardening and canning into her 90's. She loved family get-togethers and keeping in touch with family and friends. A faithful member of First Christian Church in Vancouver for over 65 years, she loved her church family and attending church events.
A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church, 111 W. 19th St., Vancouver, on Friday, May 12 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a private viewing on Monday, May 8, from noon to 5:00 p.m. at Evergreen Staples Funeral Home, 3414 NE 52nd St., Suite 101, Vancouver.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Evea's name to First Christian Church.
