Leslie King Obituary

LESLIE "JUNE" (VANCE) KING
June 6, 1926 ~ July 20, 2018

Leslie "June" (Vance) King died July 20, 2018 at the age of 92. She was born June 6, 1926 to Leslie and Winifred Vance and lived nearly her entire life in Vancouver, WA. She graduated from Vancouver High School in 1944. June was proud of having worked as a sweeper in the shipyard during the summer while in school.
After graduating, she worked in the blueprint office in the shipyard and later, the Vancouver Housing Authority as a secretary in the personal property department.
June met her husband, Larry King, in 1951 and they married in 1952. They had 2 children. Larry worked for Lucky Lager Brewery for over 30 years.
June went back to work for the Housing Authority in 1966 for a couple of years and loved her job. She had the honor of showing people with housing issues their new apartments and handing them the keys! They were always so grateful and it was a very rewarding experience for her.
Larry and June were married 44 years until his death in 1996. Together they enjoyed traveling, even if it was only as far as the trailers they had at Gleneden Beach, OR. They were blessed with a wonderful group of friends and June had many fond memories of all the fishing trips, vacations and get-togethers with them.
June is survived by her cherished daughter, Leslie Parent (Chuck) and grandsons, Kyle and Kevin Parent.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Lloyd Kady; husband, Larry; brother, Ray Vance. Her beloved son Randy died in 1975.
June's ashes have been placed next to her husbands at Park Hill Cemetery in Vancouver. There will be no service.
Remembrances may be made to a charity of your choice.
My Mom, June, wrote most of this herself a few years ago. She didn't mention that she was a wonderful homemaker, as well as the nicest and most self-less person you would ever meet. She had an amazing talent for decorating. She enjoyed her last couple of years at Van Mall Retirement. Our thanks to the wonderful people there.
~ She will forever be in our hearts. ~

I had the pleasure of being a neighbor to June at Cedar Heights. She was one of the best cooks at our community potluck events, and she always showed up. We loved her smile and her good spirit. When she moved to Van Mall, it was a loss for our community and our Book Club, so we have been missing her for a while.

June was such a thoughtful neighbor. She welcomed me to our neighborhood and always had a lovely Christmas gift for me. She invited me to join our community book club which I still attend. She was a special friend and will forever be a fond memory. She truly was a grand lady.
