MARGIT AILEEN (LONG) RUSTVOLD
February 18, 1948 ~ August 29, 2017
On Tues., Aug. 29, 2017, Margit Aileen (Long) Rustvold passed away peacefully at 69 years young of an aggressive form of cancer. She was born and raised in Aberdeen, WA to Robert J. Long and Aileen M. (Rath) Long, the third of four daughters. Margit dearly loved her sisters, Diane (Peter) Dawson of Dallas, TX, Janet (Mike) Krulich of Bloomington, MN and Mary Kathrine Long (James Wade) of Portland, OR.
Margit attended Aberdeen High School, graduating in 1966. She attended Grays Harbor College for two years where she received her Bachelor's degree in Teaching at Central Washington University in 1970, and obtained a Master's degree in Reading Specialty from Washington State University in 1986.
Margit was a dedicated educator and worked tirelessly serving hundreds of students in the Evergreen Public Schools for 39 years, beginning in September 1970. She began her career teaching 4th and 5th grade and continued for 13 years at Orchards, Marion, and Fircrest elementary schools. After obtaining her Master's degree, she served as a Reading Specialist for reading recovery at Fircrest, Hearthwood and Crestline elementary schools. For the last two years of her career she taught, before her year 2000 retirement, 1st grade at Mill Plain Elementary School.
In 2000, Margit retired from 30 years of teaching but continued to work as a substitute teacher in the district. At that time felt she "just wasn't finished" educating students, so she returned to reading specialty and eventually served as a Professional Development Specialist, mentoring and assisting her colleagues in expanding their abilities in the classroom. She also served for two years as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Education for WSU-Vancouver. Margit finally retired from teaching in 2009.
She was an active member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church and enjoyed trips with Daryle to Cannon Beach and events at the Bethany Vineyard and Winery and also Gouger Winery; but spending time with all her family meant the most to her.
~ She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. ~
Margit is survived by her husband of 39 years, Daryle Rustvold of Vancouver, WA; and her two daughters: Tina Smith of Fife, WA and Marion (Matt) Lansdon of Vancouver. She was a loving and devoted grandmother to six grandchildren: Austin, Katelynn, Colin and Matthew Lansdon; and Tori and Lauren Smith; and loved her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews and godchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Aileen; and her grandchild, Colin.
A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Sat., Sept. 9 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, Margit requested donations to either St. Andrew Lutheran Church, American Cancer Society-Relay For Life, or other charity of your choice.

Margit was absolutely one of the nicest people I worked with at Crestline Elementary. She will be greatly missed. This earth is better because she was on it. Rest in peace Margit.

Of the many memories that I have of growing up, Mrs. Rustvold is one of them. She was one of those memorable teachers that as students, we are blessed to have had in our lives. My condolences to the family on the loss of this amazing woman.

I have known Margit since the 7th grade when we spent many hours of class time sending notes to each other the old-fashioned way - on paper. She was smart, fun, kind, energetic and thoughtful. Although our paths crossed less frequently after graduation, we enjoyed each other's company and celebrating life. My condolences to all who loved her.

I was so sad to learn that my classmate and friend Margit had passed. She was a lovely person always friendly to everyone. She was one of the most popular girls in our class of '66. She will most definitely be missed but never forgotten. My heart goes out to her family and my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dear Daryle and family and friends - I extend my deepest sympathy as we all grieve our loss of a truly lovely person such as Margit. I was one of her lucky students in her early years at Marrion and was even more fortunate to become her friend. Margit was better at staying touch with me than I with her - she spent time with me and uplifted me in times of sadness and times of joy. I loved Margit and will join many others sentiment when I say she will be missed deeply. To Daryle and her family and friends I am so very sorry for your loss and you are in my thoughts. Sincerely and with love - Michelle "Mikee" Hoover Hanson

Praying for peace and strength to Daryle, the Lansdon family and all who knew Margit. I had the pleasure of working with her for years in the Evergreen School District. I will always remember how she took me in, showed me the ropes and was always on the look out for a good man for me during my single years! Rest in God's Love everyone! We were blessed to be neighbors of Margit many years ago at an apartment complex off of Mill Plain - and, yes, we remember her kindness, humor, and caring some 45 years later. Her passing is a great loss, but the world is better for the time she spent here. Wayne and Jan Storm

She was a really wonderful teacher. When my son , Chris, was in her 5th grade class at Fircrest she would daily keep me informed about his progress. At the time, I worked in the special ed department at Fircrest as a teachers aide. She would always have a sense of humor and therefore could always communicate very easily with her. I felt sad when I heard about her passing. Days gone by but with wonderful memories....

Margit started as my mentor at WSU and our friendship continued on. She believed in me from the very beginning being supportive of my teaching, recommending me to principals and always encouraging me. I was lucky enough to work with her at Crestline and Mill Plain. I always loved the days she would pop in and surprise me after she retired. She cared for my whole family too. Showering my babies with all kinds of sweet gifts and great books when they were born and after. She was a very special lady who I will miss very much!

My deepest condolences to Daryle and family. As Daryle knows, Margit also has four other sisters, her college roommates. We have spent the last 45+ years together. Margit was a devoted friend, never judging, big hearted and quick to laugh. We miss her already. "Roommies forever, always together".
