Frank Shipman Obituary

FRANK "BUD" A. SHIPMAN, JR.
March 14, 1926 ~ October 27, 2016

Frank "Bud" Shipman, Jr., 90, of Vancouver, WA, passed away October 27, 2016. He was born March 14, 1926 in Kansas City, MO to Frank and Josephine Shipman, Sr.
Frank joined the Navy at 17 to help fight in the Pacific in WWII. He served on the LST 716, transporting Marines to many invasions on the islands in the Pacific. He was very proud to be a veteran.
Frank worked for Cadet Heaters and then Alcoa Aluminum, from which he retired in 1988. In retirement, Frank enjoyed using a scroll saw to make craft items out of wood. He was also quite the inventor, always trying to invent something to make the job easier or better.
Frank enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. He was always building something, large or small, he had to keep busy. He was an avid target shooter and belonged to Vancouver Rifle and Pistol Club. Bud loved to roller-skate - he met Dee Dee at Holcomb's rink.
He was involved in youth activities including Boy Scouts, girls softball, Little League and NRA Jr. target shooting.
Frank is survived by his wife, Florence "Dee Dee", of 65 years; son, Curtis; daughter, Becky; grandchildren, Royce and Rachel and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, older sister, and grandson, Tyler Shipman.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Vancouver Funeral Chapel, 110 East 12th St., Vancouver, WA 98660, with a reception following in the hospitality room. Frank will be interned at Willamette National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to go to Southwest Hospice.

I was able to spend the day with Bud a couple of weeks before his passing. We had a great time. Got a few little projects completed and had lunch with doughnuts for dessert.
I always think of him when I come across the flashlight in my purse or the refrigerator magnets he made for me. I'll miss our visits.

Uncle Bud, I got to know you, really, in just the past few years; I've always respected your work ethic and your cheerful assessment of most things. I appreciate the lovely things you made out of Myrtle Wood and sold in shops along the coast. Our entire family's love of the Oregon Sea Coast gave us many hours of enjoyment and must have come originally from your parents and our grandparents, Jo and Frank Shipman. We'll miss you...but we know you're released from all pain and worry.

I met bud in 2012 as he and dee dee were my now in-laws neighbors and right away i noticed he was always making or doing something, 2 years later after my son was born the two bonded over nothing more than a flash light and even now my son tells me "bud taught me all about flash lights". I learned that bud worked with my paternal grandfather at alcoa and he told me many stories of those days, bud always had a good story to tell and he always had a direction or a project one such project was a bird feeder that hangs outside my home and i will pass it onto my son later on. Bud was like the grandpa i never had and the same goes for my husband. We love u bud and dee dee!!!
