William Moorman Obituary

WILLIAM JOHN ”DOC” MOORMAN
December 19, 1925 ˜ January 16, 2019

William John ”Doc” Moorman went to meet the Great Commander on January 16, 2019. He was born December 16, 1925 to Henry and Elizabeth Moorman in New Hyde Park, NY, the third of four boys.
Doc was the Chief Corpsman, US Navy and a Regimental Chief, US Marine Corps. He served in WWII and Korea, spending most of his time in the Pacific Theatre setting up field hospitals. Back in the US, he commissioned the Navy Base, Pacific Beach, WA in 1958.
After 20 years in the service, Doc and his late wife, Louise, raised their daughters in Ocean City, WA where he was Deputy Sheriff, Grays Harbor County.
Doc loved hunting, fishing, boating, building (his home in Ocean City), playing poker and traveling as he and Louise spent many winters in Mazatlan.
In 2001, Doc married Margot Miller. They spent time traveling in the US, Canada, Mexico and some countries in Europe.
Doc went with Navy buddies to watch his ship, the USS Oriskany (first aircraft carrier around the horn) sunk off the Pensacola Coast as a diving reef in 2006.
He was a member of the Moose, the Elks, American Legion (Oriskany, NY), lifetime member of the VFW, KWVA and Marine Corps League.
Doc was given his last rites by Father Jack and he requested no other services. He will buried at sea off an aircraft carrier.
Survivors include his wife, Margot; two daughters, Debbie Requa of Olympia, WA and Cindy (Rick) Radabah of Graham, WA; his brother, John (Carol) Platt of Esperance, NY; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and Margot’s two daugthers, Darci Wert of Battle Ground, WA and Diana (Dale) Requa of Yacolt, WA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; daughter, Elizabeth; his parents; two older brothers, Hank and Bert; and son-in-law, Bill Requa.
Heartfelt gratitude goes out to Dr. Nagaraj of the Vancouver Clinic, Dr. Feliciano and staff at Vascular Surgery, and all nurses and staff at Community Hospice in Vancouver.
If desired, memorial donations in his name may be made to Navy-Marine Relief Society, 91 Radford Blvd., Bldg. 191, Pensacola, FL 32508-5223.
