MAXINE BASH
October 27, 1929 ~ January 27, 2016
Maxine Bash passed away peacefully in her residence in Vancouver, WA on Jan. 27, 2016 at the age of 86.
She was born to Maxwell and Helen King on Oct. 27, 1929 in Lorain, Ohio. While at Lorain High School, Maxine began dating Daniel Bash, who she married at the age of 20 in 1950.
She attended Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio, secured her Ohio Teacher's Certificate, and taught at Columbia Station Elementary for the 1950-51 school year.
The next year she gave birth to Thomas in Milwaukee. Then, 2 1/2 years later John was born in Detroit. Dan & Maxine were certainly getting on with life.
Dan's work took the family to the Chicago area, and eventually they settled in the western suburb of Elmhurst. In 1963 Maxine began her 24-year run as an elementary teacher in the Elmhurst public school district. During her tenure she also trained 14 student teachers in her classrooms. She was exceptionally conscientious and very proud of her teaching career.
Early in 1969 they lost eldest son Tom to an accident. He was an outstanding young man in so many ways. Tragic, challenging to cope with, though over time Maxine, as she would say, "made my way."
The Bash family were members of the First Congregational Church In Elmhurst. This church also housed the Tree Towns Duplicate Bridge Club, which Dan owned and managed - with Maxine's support - for more than 30 years.
After their retirement, Dan & Maxine discovered Crystal Cruises, which, as Maxine later wrote, "had marvelous lectures, duplicate bridge...and beautiful shows." They very much enjoyed their fellow passengers and the crews as they toured interesting places all over earth.
In the summer of 2006 Dan & Maxine moved to Vancouver to be closer to family: John and his wife Marianne, and grandchildren Tom, Alex and Kerrie. In September 2013, Dan passed away, also in his residence in Vancouver. They had been married 63 years.
Maxine was a gracious lady.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a tribute gift to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra USA, which Maxine enjoyed & supported.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22 at Touchmark at Fairway Village.

I was so worried about Maxine. She was a wonderful and kind lady and I'll miss our talks--and her. She was so fond of her family; I feel I know them well. I went through old letters and found the name of her retirement center, and left a message for Phil and Marianne. I do hope you'll call me. Her father, Max, and my grandmother, Maude Ellen, were siblings. She was a good friend of my parents, Walter and Dianne Burns of Ohio, who are now both deceased. But Maxine kept in touch with her Ohio cousins, including me, fortunately. I am your second cousin, Phil. Please let me know about your dear mother. Lots of other Ohio cousins are worried, too! I live in NC. You can contact me at [email protected] or at the number I left at Touchstone.
May she rest in peace and join her beloved Dan in heaven. I will miss her so.

So sorry to lose our cousin, Maxine. We always looked forward to her newsy holiday letters. She helped us get through the death of our Mother even though by telephone.

1/2 of a lovely couple. They most certainly have organized bridge in the afterlife!

Oh no, I am so so sorry to hear. I - as did my whole family - loved both Dan and Maxine. I know my parents spent many hours with the Bashs at the bridge table and over coffee while on Crystal. You will be missed.
