IDA COLLIER
March 23, 1927 ~ February 22, 2017
Ida Collier, 89, passed away in Vancouver, WA, on Feb. 22, 2017. She was born in Cairo, Egypt on March 23, 1927. Ida met and married her husband, Ellis "Jim" Collier, during World War II while Jim was in the Air Force flying bomber missions out of Cairo. As the war approached its end, Ida traveled separately to the United States to give birth to their first child. Jim was able to return several weeks later to join Ida as she began her new life in the US.
Ida, Jim and their growing family lived in numerous locations around the country and in Europe during the following years until Jim retired from the Air Force in 1964 while stationed at Fairchild AFB near Spokane. In 1972, they settled in Vancouver where Ida worked for the BPA until retiring in 1993. After 52 years of marriage, Jim passed away in 1996. Since that time, Ida enjoyed many years volunteering as a tutor in local elementary schools and traveling to visit family.
Ida lived a truly amazing and adventurous life. She is survived by a loving family including her daughters, Ida "Tootsie" Hedges and husband Tim, Louise Liston and husband Rick; and son, Ed; grandchildren, Douglas and wife Michelle of Woodbridge, VA, Rob and wife Julie of Richmond, VA, and Christy of Vancouver, WA; and great- grandchildren, Christopher, Emma, Ginny, and Evie.
A memorial service will be held Wed., March 1, 2017, 1:30 p.m. at the Evergreen Staples Funeral Home. Ida will be buried at the Willamette National Cemetery with her late husband Jim.
