Cecelia Kirchner Obituary

CECELIA REBECCA FULCHER KIRCHNER
1947 ˜ 2019

Cecelia Rebecca Fulcher Kirchner, 71, a resident of Vancouver, WA, passed away Friday morning, July 26, 2019. She was born and raised in San Antonio where she attended St. Gregory’s elementary school and later Ursuline Academy, making lifelong friends.
After graduating St. Mary’s University, Ceil met her husband while working at Brooks AFB in San Antonio. Notably, their first date was 50 years ago on the evening of the first moon walk.
After marrying, Ceil followed her husband several times around the west coast and Texas where she worked in cancer research and semiconductor production research before settling in Vancouver, WA. There Ceil became an active part of the community where she found her passion for volunteering. Her achievements include: spearheading the movement to open the first computer lab at her children’s elementary school, volunteering for years with the Camas-Washougal Historical Society; she was active in her parish children’s choir, in the public school’s arts and science programs, and most recently - while serving on the Camas-Washougal Port Advisory Board - she lead the drive to create, and guided the design and construction of the Chinook Plaza in the Parkersville National Historic Site, including creating the four informational panels around the plaza.
Ceil will be remembered for her ever patient, kind and helping nature, quick wit and great conversation.
She is survived by her siblings, John, Letitia, Timothy and William; her husband, David; children, Elisabeth Martinez (Javier) and John Kirchner; her grandchildren, Isabella, Desmond and Gabriella; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents; and her brother, Michael.
Her funeral service will be at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Camas on Friday, August 2nd at 3:00 PM, following a rosary at 2:00 PM, with viewing on Thursday, August 1st from 4-6:00 PM, also at St. Thomas.

Not sure what to say?

I would add today that I regret that the distance of miles between. kept us from seeing each other, It kept me from enjoying my extended family in San Antonio We had many sweet family occasions when we were young. It was good to be together for her interment ceremony.

Ceil was amazingly generous with her time and intelligence. She was part of a group formed in 2006 called Concerned Citizens in Action, who were able to save an important Historical site in Washougal called Parkers Landing/Parkersville. She was also part of an advisory group that protected that site ongoing, and was active with the Camas-Washougal Historical Society. I was lucky to get to know her and work along side her. It does not surprise me that she also had such an amazing history with amazing people. Dave, thank you for lending your wonderful spouse to our community causes. She left this world a better place.

I was unable to attend and sorry that I did not, but after Ceil left home and married, I took credit for introduced her and Dave to John Prine, and they came to Austin for a show the first time I saw him live. We saw Doug Kershaw live a few months later, a show opened by Ray Wylie Hubbard and the Cowboy Twinkies. A few years later, they invited me to the TXX World Speedway to see a Willie Nelson picnic, the same one that appeared on the Midnight Special TV show. When I visited them in Beaverton in 1981, we all went to see a version of the Flying Burrito Brothers, which feature original member Sneaky Pete Kleinow, steel guitarist and animator. On the floor of their home in San Jose, I felt my first and only earthquake, which actually came from the Coachella Valley, but it was a 3.5 on the Richter in San Jose. I am grateful for being able to be part of their lives after they were married on these occasions.

Our condolences on Ceil's death. She always was a kind and generous friend to all our family. We will miss her and her kind, gentle ways. But we realize that she now is in a better place, without pain, lovingly embraced by our Lord.
Rest in Peace, dear Ceil.

Dear family, I have many happy memories of Thanksgiving in San Antonio. Aunt Opal and Aunt Jewel were so kind. They worked so hard to prepare for us to care for us. The values of kindness, selfless giving, and devotion to God, nation, and family were taught by example. I know that Ceil was gentle and good and loving. I know that she came by it honestly. We will all miss her. I am sorry that years have kept us apart

Dear Family. I'm sorry I didn't have the blessing of personally knowing Celi. I heard of her through Tim Fulcher. I am a descendant of the Fulchers through my mother. Sending love from Tucson. Bless you all.

I am so sorry to hear of Ceil's passing. I've had the pleasure of knowing her since she was a young girl. I knew her Mother and the whole family. Her sister, Letitia was a good friend of mine for many years. My prayers and condolences for the friends and family. I also want to thank whomever was responsible for sending me the obituary.
