WILMA JUNE DANIEL
October 22, 1926 ˜ March 2, 2019
Wilma was born in Elma, WA. She was the second of three daughters born to Clement and Ida Longoria Viles. Elma was in the center of the logging industry and tragedy struck the family when Wilma was 3. A sawmill accident left her mother a widow with three little girls to raise. Wilma never forgot her humble roots and learned frugality from that time on into her adult life. The little family struggled but got by raising rabbits, chickens and keeping a milk cow.
When Wilma was 9, her mother remarried and two brothers and another sister joined the family. World War II brought the family to Vancouver for work and they settled in Hazel Dell. Moving to Vancouver, WA meant a new school-Vancouver High School. There she caught the eye of a Hazel Dell native, Larry Daniel. Soon they were inseparable and married after graduation in June 1944.
Settling in Hazel Dell, they welcomed four daughters into the family. Larry became a general contractor in the area and built many custom homes. Wilma decorated the interiors then started painting for him. She painted and stained over 30 homes carrying around buckets of paint and ladders. In the 1960’s, she became interested in antiques and soon became an avid collector and dealer in the original Sandy Barr Flea Market and the Don Wirfs Antique shows at the Expo Center.
After Larry retired, they purchased a condo in Newport, OR and spent many weekends walking on the beach. Not content to sit still, both she and Larry rented spaces in the Newport antique Mall and kept up the hobby until Larry passed in 2017.
Wilma moved to Clearwater Springs Assisted Living in 2017 and lived there until her death.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol, Sylvia and Krista; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and twelve great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; daughter, Donna; granddaughter, Lolita; sisters, Virginia, Barbara and Marilyn; and brothers, Gene and Tom.
A memorial service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens hospitality room, 1101 NE 112th Ave., Vancouver, WA 98684 on March 16, 2019 at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the West Columbia Gorge Humane Society, 2675 Index St., Washougal, WA 98671.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Your mom was a part of our family's history. She was a great friend to my parents and I've always appreciated that so much.
