WILLIAM "BILL" A. BRAKE
March 25, 1950 ~ August 5, 2017
William "Bill" A. Brake passed away on August 5, 2017 after a three-month battle with advanced bladder cancer that had spread. Bill was born March 25, 1950 in Chicago, IL. His family moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1955 after the death of his father.
He graduated from New Mexico State University with a degree as a Chemical Engineer. Bill worked for 35 years in Natural Gas Processing for Phillips Petroleum and Williams Energy Company. Upon retiring in 2005, he and his wife moved to Vancouver, WA.
Bill Brake was a tirelessly volunteer as a technical advisor for the Sierra Club and the Columbia River Keepers. He worked in Vancouver, Longview and Kalama to stop fossil fuel projects that would pollute the Columbia River. Bill said we in Southwest Washington are blessed with fresh air, clean water and a great place to call home. Why would we want to spoil it for a few hundred jobs for the next 50 years?
Bill is survived by his wife, Lynda Raven Brake; daughter, Teressa Brake of Brooklyn, NY; son, Terrance Brake Dunnavant of Ridgefield, WA; grandchildren, Treya, Ezra and Lucas; and sisters, Susan Brake of Albuquerque, NM, Mary Brake and Elizabeth Brake of Chicago, IL.
A Celebration of the Life of Bill Brake will be held on September 23 at 10:30 a.m. in the nature he loved at the property of Alona and Don Steinke. The Sierra Club, Columbia River Keepers and Southwest Washington Watercolor Society where his wife is a member and where they worked and promoted the arts in Vancouver will all participate in honoring the life of Bill Brake.
