Memories and Condolences
for Gary Baker

Not sure what to say?

I remember Gary from grade school days at the Academy Catholic School in Vancouver. Though we never had a friendship, we were always friendly to one another. From the obituary, it seems that his mellow and supportive personality lasted throughout his life. I am sad to read of his passing, it would have been good to have had a chance for a chat. There is a little less light in the world, but his optimism perseveres.

Sorry to read of Garys death. I was a good friend of his throughout grade school at the academy and our lady of Lourdes. I am a retired city policeman. I ran into Gary many times when he was a fireman. I have lived in Surprise Arizona for the past 12 years. I miss having contact with all my friends back in Vancouver.

I was saddened to learn of Gary's passing. His mother and my mother were cousins, so that made us second cousins. We got out of touch after we got older, but I used to see Gary off and on when he was with the fire department. Reading other entries in the guest book, it is obvious that he was well loved by many. Deepest condolences to all his family.

Gary, Hey "Body" you were the Best Brother any Sister could ever ask for, a Great Son for Mom and Dad and a Very Special Uncle to Kacy! He has always thought you were a pretty darn cool "Uncle Gary"! Thanks, I love you, brother. How about the "easterbasket" episode?! You got me there! But I got you too! The "milk duds" were not the "duds" you thought, were they, Gary?! We had fun and you were a big cause of it!! Thanks, I loved you for all that. Your journey here is over and now you rest easy, sitting and watching over all of us with the folks and the rest with you!! (I know that you are) Give Mom and Dad a big hug and kiss for me, please! Until we meet later....we're gonna miss you here. Love you, Brother, your Sister, Pat

I have always remembered the Baker household fondly as I've grown up and had my own kids. I have always treasured the time I spent with you guys, and Gary and Maureen always made me feel so welcome and at home. Much love to Maureen and all the Baker kids as well as the rest of the family. I'll always remember Gary as a funny, loving man against a backdrop of a warm and inviting house or a breezy cabin on the river.

Gary loved his children and grandchildren immensely. You could feel the warmth in his strong embrace, and the levity he brought to each occasion through his smile. Grandpa, we will miss you, thank you for all that you have done, your legacy kindness fills our hearts.

Gary is a legend in our family. We all loved the joy he brought to people in so many different roles. He was a dear family friend and a gift to many others. Gary loved children and he will be fondly remembered by us as
"Barry Gaker." We are saddened for the precious family he leaves behind. Linda Cawley Herrmann

My prayers are with you & your family Maureen. I've known Gary since I was 6 years old. We survived the nuns at Our Lady of Lourdes grammar school. He was beyond fortunate to have you in his life Maureen & I will always remember him with love.

I just received notice of Gary's death from my cousin John Tuttle. My condolences go out to the Baker family. Although I didn't know Gary, he was a member of the 'hood (Rosemere) where I grew up at 2808 'S' Street. I remember as a kid, I threw a rock through the plate glass window of the store aiming at some other kid. That image is still clear in my mind some fifty years on. I will always be grateful for the understanding way Mr. Baker handled that moment. If Mr. Baker (Gary's dad) and his sister Pat are any indication, Gary was a fine man indeed.

I'm so sorry to hear of Gary's passing. He worked at the fire department with my husband. In the past few months, when I did my shopping at Freddy's in Hazeldell, I would see Gary and we would chat about our families. He also did some electrical work for me when I moved after my husband was lost in a plane accident. With so much appreciation for that he wouldn't take a payment. He was a great guy and I will miss our chats.

To say that Mr. Baker was a wonderful man is just the tip of the iceberg. He was extraordinary, and that is reflected as much in his marriage with Mrs. Baker as it is with his children and grandchildren.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Wishing you peace through this difficult time.
