Charles Cooper Obituary

CHARLES "TOM" COOPER
October 3, 1944 ~ April 22, 2011

Tom or "Coop", as he was affectionately known to his friends and co-workers, passed away at the Ray Hickey Hospice House. He had spent the day with family and friends around him.
He had finished his journey on this earth, a job well done.
He was born to George and Audrey Cooper in Texas. He had been a grocery person all of his life, spending 42 years with many different Safeway stores in this area. As a young boy he worked in his family grocery store in Upton, Wyoming.
Tom loved to cook and bake, often providing his friends, co- workers, and the nurses at the Infusion Center with food and goodies. Many holiday dinners and summer parties were held at his house and he was always the master cook for these events. He often shared recipes with others.
He was an avid Winter Hawk fan and followed them closely. He was a member of the Vancouver Moose.
He and his wife of 40 years, Dorothy, traveled every summer, always looking for new adventures.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, mother and mother-at-heart, Erma. She took him into her heart at age two and loved him as her own; his brother Orby and sister JoAnn.
He is survived by his sisters Mary and Linda; brothers James and Neal; sons Patrick, and wife Nita, Tim, and wife Teresa; four grandchildren, Nathan, Thomas, Emily and Steven; and his wife, Dorothy.
He will be missed so much by all. He was brave and had a wonderful sense of humor. His "powder" girls will miss him too.
A service will be held, Thursday April 28, 2011, 3:00 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with visitation on Wednesday.
If you desire, donations can be made to the Cancer Research or to the Ray Hickey Hospice House.

Tom Cooper welcomed me into the family with open arms. In the beginning of my marriage to Pat, he was my father in law. Over the years he became dad. I'll always smile when I think of you and feel your warm hugs. I love you dad and I miss you.

Here are some words of sentiment my mother did not get to say at Tom's funeral.
He Stood...Our friend Tom stood for many things in his life...He stood for his family(he was a son, brother husband and father.) He stood for his friends(loyal and true.) He stood up on the space needle and the bottom of the Grand Canyon. He stood for his job(42 years of grocery business.)He stood in our homes(always a welcomed guest.)He stood and saluted the American flag. He stood for honor and commitment. He stood looking forward to a future with his grand children. He stood through the hard times and the good times. He stood by his wife Dorothy(a love affair that lasted 40 years.) And finally he stood until the end.
In loving memory from Richard and Kay Mobley.

Tom, you were the most wonderful husband, I was so lucky to have had you for 40 years. We had fun, we traveled, we enjoyed so many things together. It killed me when you got sick, it just broke my heart. I'll see you someday again, don't worry, I'm fine.

Love you forever...

I never met a nicer person than Tom, always there to give a helping hand, cook a special meal, share a treasured recipe, help out wherever and whenever needed. I will dearly miss his keen sense of humor, his travel zest for life, and his kind words of encouragement...God's speed to you Dorothy, until you meet again...love, Lorraine and Benito

Although we had not seen much of Tom in recent years, it was not uncommon to run into Tom at Costco or Starbucks. He always had a big smile for me, a hug, and of course, a funny story to tell. My heart goes out to Dorothy, Chuck, Tim, and the the rest of the family and friends that loved Tom so.

Tom is a wonderful memory of mine growing up in a Safeway family. Tom worked with my dad at the Tower Mall Safeway, where I also worked for a short time. Tom was always so kind to me and my dad thought the world of him. I was in the store so many times and always sought Tom out to have a short visit with. I imagine dad and Tom are up in Heaven talking Safeway! My prayers are with the family and friends as they have lost someone great and Heaven has gained another angel.

Coop was a salt of the earth kind of guy. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He always enjoyed a good joke and loved to share them as well. I called him Coop deville because he was so smooth, and he was the only one who called me JT. I always looked forward to he and Dorothy's trip to bring us back Walla Walla sweets, and asparagus. Tom was an awesome person, and he will be missed greatly. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.
