Dorothy Nelsen Obituary

DOROTHY F. NELSEN
March 9, 1920 - April 13, 2011

Our Dearest Dorothy,
This day, April 13th, will always be remembered and quietly kept,
No words are needed, we shall never forget,
For those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day.
Unseen and unheard, but always near,
So loved, so missed, and so very dear.

Dorothy retired from Pacific NW Bell Telephone Company in 1978 with over 30 years of service.
Dorothy enjoyed just being outdoors, whether it was planting flowers, working in her vegetable garden or just spending time with her animals.
Over the past year she treasured all the friendships made at the Cascade Inn in Vancouver, WA, and participating in all of the daily activities, especially BINGO and her nightly routine of RUMMIKUB.
She will be in our hearts forever -
We Love You and God Bless You!
Dorothy leaves behind many dear friends who are like family.
She was preceded in death by, Clarence Nelsen (husband); Melvin and Hilma Fielding (parents); Richard and Paul Fielding (brothers).
A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Sat., April 23rd at the Cascade Inn, 11613 SE 7th Street, Vancouver, WA 98683. Her final resting place and graveside burial will at 11:00 a.m. on Mon., April 25th at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland, OR 97086.

Not sure what to say?

Our Dearest Dorothy,

Dorothy as you know was a very kind hearted person, she was very quiet, but was always willing to listen and help in any way. She was a very smart and intelligent lady. Seven years ago when her dear friend Colby passed away, she was very sad and lonely, we would call her twice a day to check on her and visit her once a week or more if needed. We took her under our wing and made her a part of our family. Dorothy was a very special person and was loved by all, she will be missed and will always hold a special place in our hearts! We will take good care of Moka,Cassie and Corky! All our love, Bruce and Nancy

Dear Dorothy,
Without knowing intention - as it was simply your nature – I feel you demonstrated graciousness, kindness, and sweetness. With true humility you honored God, your loved ones, and the many animal companions that came into your life. I was able to go from a 4 year old child to adult next door to a practical, uncomplicated woman who expressed tolerance and friendliness for the variety of activities a busy family of 5 created. Thank you for your continual thoughtfulness and also for the beauty of your yard and flowers that you so lovingly tended.
I am so happy you received many loving family and friends in the later years of your life and that you were able to live your days on earth with health and clear thinking. I will miss your sweet little giggle and smile. Rest in Peace.

"Aunt Dorothy" is how my mother would refer to her. Many memories of my mother lighting up many years ago when the phone would ring and "Aunt Dorothy" was on the phone! As a young child I remember thinking what a happy woman she is, I enjoyed watching my mother and her visit, visit and visit!

Dorothy was the nicest person and a wonderful neighbor. I grew up next door to the Nelsons at my boyhood home in Aloha, Oregon. Dorothy always remembered us at special times of the year with a card and a few dollars tucked inside. This is one of my fondest memories that I will cherish forever.
Rest in peace,
John Marsh

Dorothy, dear friend & best neighbor of all. I will always remember how we talked over the fence line about everything & how you soothed my heart when my mother passed away. You watched my three children grow into responable adults. Even when they were moving in and out of the house you said, "they were wearing out their mattresses' by moving so much." You were at their weddings, you witnessed their children when all six of them came along. Summer time, how we worked late into the evening in our back yards in our gardens - sharing vegetables and mostly I received from you "knowledge". I love you and will just simply miss you. Love, Marcella Radke
