Kenneth Lecount Obituary

KENNETH RAY LECOUNT
May 31, 1950 ~ April 7, 2011

Kenneth Ray LeCount, 60, of Vancouver, WA, passed away Thurs., April 7 at his home. Ken was born May 31, 1950 in Lewistown, MT, to Ray and Luella LeCount. He moved with his family to Seattle, WA in 1966 and later graduated from Central Washington University with a BA in Math Education.
On August 5, 1972 Ken married Doris Forsgren and together they raised two children, Amy and Tim.
He enjoyed gardening, was an avid runner, bicycler and backpacker.
Ken taught grade 5 in the Battle Ground School District until his retirement. In retirement Ken worked as a member of Laborers for Christ and helped rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and helped with construction of churches in Laramie, WY and East Wenatchee, WA.
Ken and Doris were members of St. John Lutheran Church where Ken played an active role as a teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and choir member. He consistently lived his passion of engaging others in the study of God's Word.
The final 19 months of Ken's life were particularly precious. Despite difficult treatments following his cancer diagnosis, Ken and Doris enjoyed their young granddaughters, assisted with construction of son Tim's home, spent time with friends, and even enjoyed a backpacking trip.
Ken is survived by his wife of 38 years, Doris (Forsgren) LeCount; daughter, Amy Kostal and husband, Nate; son, Tim LeCount and wife, Jamie; three granddaughters; and his sister, Alice Belmont and husband, Claton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Luella LeCount.
A celebration of Ken's life will be held Sat., April 16 at St. John Lutheran Church in Vancouver at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or an outdoor charity of your choice, such as Rails to Trails.

Not sure what to say?

Mrs LeCount and kids, I so admired your husband and dad. He was a man whose Christianity shone from within him in everything he did and said. He inspired me to go forward and obtain my degree and teacher certification. He also was especially kind to my son, Brad Heath, when Brad was in his class. Both Brad and Brett remember Tim from basketball. Ken was a wonderful man and teacher. God bless and keep you all in your time of sorrow.

Dear Doris and family - I was so sorry to read of Ken's passing. I always enjoyed visiting with him every 6 months at the dental office when, for even a 7 am appointment, he rode his bike in! But my heartwarming memory of him is of the genuine care and concern for his students as witnessed by his attending Wade and Toby's ball games when they were his students. He went above and beyond teaching in the classroom to teaching by example. Know that he influenced many lives.

Ken was a pleasure to work with. He had a wonderful sense of humor and who could forget "The Count" at Halloween. Earth's loss is Heaven's gain. God's peace to Doris and family as they treasure all their fond memories.

There must be a need for special "Fixit" folks in heaven as Ken was one of the best. His humanitarian heart was constantly leading him on journeys around the country to help others. The world will miss him dearly.

In 1982, I had the priviledge of having Mr. LeCount as my 5th grade teacher. He was a great teacher! Then in 2004, my daughter had the same priviledge. God be with your family.

Love to all of you....
We loved praying with Ken just a few months ago. We so felt the presence of Our Lord during that prayer. Ken was humble and in need of God's help.
We have been praying for Ken non-stop....Doris, our hearts ache for you. May the Lord of all comfort be very close to all of you during this most difficult week.
With fiery Irish love,
Maureen and Dave Sherman

Dear Doris, Tim, Amy, Alice and families, Ken blessed us as a Laborer for Christ for much of 2008. He was more than a skilled craftsman; he participated in our congregation throughout the build (even teaching Sunday School) and inspired us all. We will always thank God for him. "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." D Melius (Faith Lutheran Church, East Wenatchee, WA)
