Charles Dickinson Obituary

CHARLES "CHUCK" W. DICKINSON
December 15, 1930 ~ February 28, 2011

Charles "Chuck" W. Dickinson of Vancouver, WA and Rancho Mirage, CA, peacefully passed away at the age of 80 in Rancho Mirage from Parkinson's health complications. Chuck was born Dec. 15, 1930 in Pratt, KS to Clarence and Blanche Dickinson. He was one of six children and lived most of his life in Vancouver and graduated from Vancouver High School in 1948.
During the Korean War, Chuck served four years in the U.S. Navy on the heavy destroyer, St. Paul.
Through friends he was introduced to the love of his life, Marilyn McCowan. They married Dec. 10, 1955 in Hoquiam, WA and honeymooned at Timberline Lodge in Oregon. Chuck and Marilyn raised four children.
Chuck lived a very full and long life,
loved his family and was blessed with many friends.
He started his work career in the grocery business, becoming a general manager with Pay'nTakit. Later, he owned and operated the Totem Pole Restaurant in Vancouver for 16 years and the Kentucky Fried Chicken franchises (the oldest franchises on the West Coast) in Clark County. He and Marilyn retired in 1997.
Chuck loved their family home at Lake Cushman, in the Olympics of Washington and he and Marilyn split their time between home town Vancouver and the sunny Palm Springs. They traveled world-wide, skied and played tennis and golf.
Chuck is survived by wife, Marilyn, of 55 years; daughters, Cindy (Ron) Stanley and Pam Dickinson; sons, Scott (Laura) and Greg (Kerry); grandchildren, Shawn, Maddie, Katie, Alex, Mackenzie, Jason, Melissa and Heather; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Schell and Ruth Locy; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life for Vancouver will be announced later.

Marilyn & family, we will miss Chuck's warm hellos & the great visits around so many Cushman campfires. His generosity was only outweighed by his love of family & friends. We could always count on a good laugh & good times together. The Dickinson family has always been special to the Clancy Clan. We send our love and our support to you all.
