BARBARA LANGE DUTTON
June 4, 1953 ~ February 13, 2011
Barbara Lange Dutton, 57, died peacefully at home in Butte, MT with family present on Feb. 13, 2011. Barb fought a courageous nine-month battle with ovarian cancer. She was born June 4, 1953 in Morton, WA to Norman and Mary Lange. She attended schools in Amboy and Battle Ground, WA, graduating from high school in 1971, where she received the "Betty Crocker Homemaker of the Year" award.
Barb's work career included Jantzen, White Stag, NERCO (vice president secretary) all in the Vancouver, WA area.
In 1995, Barb married her high school sweetheart, Denys "Denny" Dutton, after reconnecting at their 20th class reunion.
Residing in Vancouver for another four years, Barb worked as a paralegal for attorney Dan Marsh and ran an antique store on Broadway in Vancouver.
Falling in love with the "Big Sky" country, the Duttons moved to Butte in 1999. Barb went to work for Jo Ann's Fabric for several years before returning back to her law training as a legal secretary for Bob McCarthy Law Office. Her final job was in the legal department of the Town Pump Main Office in Butte.
The many hobbies and loves that Barb created included beautiful quilts, drawings, paintings, restored furniture, retro-styled lamp shades and though never finished, a novel. Hiking, camping, history, music, cats, dogs and people were her favorite pastimes.
Moving to Butte gave the Duttons two craftsman homes to restore to their former beauty and together they also restored a vintage 1956 Alhoa camp trailer that provided many wonderful camping trips.
Barbara was past president of the Butte Friends and Newcomers Club, member of the Butte Citizens for Preservation and Revitalization, backstage coordinator for the National Folk Festival, helped found Old Butte Historical Adventures and worked as a volunteer for the Museum of Fine Arts Butte. She was honored in the 2010 Christmas Stroll as co-marshal for the parade.
Barb is survived by her husband, Denys Dutton of Butte; mother, Mary Anderson and step-father, Reinold Anderson of Vancouver; sister, Karen Lange of Ridgefield, WA; brother, Erick Lange of Bozeman, MT; and nieces, Christine and Anna Lange of Bozeman.
She was preceded in death by her father, Norman Lange in 1994.

Barb's passing was all too soon. I only recently made connection with her again on facebook last year. We had a terrific senior year. We spent the unofficial "Senior Skip Day" together shopping at the Lloyd Center. We also spent a night going to a "party" for graduation and wound up, just her, I, another female classmate, and 4 guys we didn't know. Needless to say, when our ride deserted us, we had to find ways to get home. We survived it! She will be greatly missed! And Denys account of what he saw the day after she passed was a great testomy to faith! Thank you Barb for being one of those people who came into my life for a reason!

Denys and Family, we are so sorry for your loss.
We met Barb only once, however, we could clearly see the love and devotion Denys and Barb held for each other. We'll never forget her.
Always know, Denys, we are here for you.
Love,

Barb was a great friend in high school and I am so glad we were able to reconnect this last year.Loved her laugh and her quick wit.I still remember the girls league "play" we all tried to pull off one year.I always envied her sewing ability and how to make things look great together.I will see her as the girl who helped me in home ec and the one who tried to teach us not to take ourselves so seriously. She cast a brilliant light that will glow in the heavens for us all to see.My heartfelt sympathies to all her family.

Barb was my very best friend from the first through the fifth grade when my parents moved away from Amboy to Oregon. I missed her very much and although we wrote each other, that dropped off as we grew. However, I have never forgotten my dear friend and I have been trying to find her this last year. I am so sorry that I was unable to make that contact until now. My sympathies to all of her family. Know that she lives on forever young and healthy in my heart. Deb Walker (nee Debby Jones).
