Funeral services will be held for Mary Diane McCormick Wed., Aug. 30, 2006 at 2:00pm at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Vancouver, Washington. She passed away Sat., Aug. 26, 2006 from complications due to ovarian cancer.
Diane was born Aug. 12, 1938 in Klamath Falls, Oregon to Lindsey and LaVerne (Seehale) Doty, both of Jefferson, Oregon. The family lived in Bremerton and Seattle, Washington before settling in Eugene, Oregon shortly after World War II.
She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in English from the University of Oregon. It was there that she met and married Michael Henry McCormick of John Day, Oregon. Michael joined the Army in 1960 and they, along with their two daughters, lived many places over the next 27 years.
She moved to Brush Prairie, WA in 1982, and in 1984 started teaching at Prairie High School where she taught English and was the newspaper advisor. She retired in 2000. She enjoyed traveling, knitting, and volunteering, most recently at Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors and Southwest Washington Medical Center.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Michael; daughters, Molly (McCormick) Cullen, and her partner, Stephen Pliska of Portland, Oregon, Karen (McCormick) Duncan and her husband, Mark of Kirkland, Washington; grandchildren, Carrie Cullen, Laura, Grant, and Travis Duncan; and dear friend, Robert Geddes of Portland, Oregon. Stephen Pliska's children, Sarah Pliska, Zachary and Keturah Pliska, and Nathan and Carrie Pliska will miss her as well.
