ORA FAYE THOGERSON
June 10, 1921 ˜ December 8, 2018
Ora Faye Thogerson died peacefully on December 8, 2018, at 97, surrounded by her daughter and son.
Ora Faye Wilson, born in Tacoma Washington, was raised in Battle Ground, Washington. There she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Arnold “Tug” Thogerson. Their marriage lasted 71 years until his death in 2011.
After Arnold’s service in WW II, they moved to Forest Grove, Oregon to attend Pacific University. Upon graduation in 1949, they remained in Forest Grove where they both taught at Forest Grove Union High School.
Ora quit teaching to raise their children: her daughter Jan was born in 1953, followed by her son Neil in 1955.
After her children grew up, she was a Journalism Professor at Pacific University and later became the Veterans Service Officer for Washington County, a position she held for seven years before retiring.
Ora Faye was active in many other government, civic and fraternal organizations in Forest Grove and Washington County. In Forest Grove, she served on the Forest Grove City budget committee, Planning Commission and finally on the City Council for 8 years. She also served on many Washington County service boards. Also, she was involved in two other organizations dear to her heart: PEO (a philanthropic organization to financially aid women in their pursuits for a college education) and League of Women Voters. Other activities she enjoyed were Bridge club, book club, and church activities.
Ora and Arnold retired in 1986 and moved to Beaverton, Oregon, where she remained a resident until her death.
She is survived by her two children: Jan Gist (Tom) and Neil Thogerson; her grandchildren, Erika Myrick (Mitch), Taryn Mooney (Colin) and Kylie Thogerson; and great-grandchildren, Chase and Kayla Myrick.
