D. Lorraine Hyde Pershall Blakeslee was born to Fred and Delphine (Aldrich) Hyde in Pierre, SD. When Lorraine was eight years of age, the Hyde family moved to the farming community of Vale, OR to escape the Dust Bowl. Lorraine graduated from Vale High School in 1946, and married Robert Pershall with whom she had two children. As a farmwoman, she milked cows, baked pies for the community store, helped harvest crops while keeping an eye on her children and impressing her nieces with her hairdressing abilities.
Later in her life, she moved to Boise, ID, where she met and married Charles Dean Blakeslee in 1972. Charlie and Lorraine enjoyed a life of traveling the world and living abroad in the country of Panama. After her husband's death, Lorraine settled in Vancouver, WA close to her daughter and family and continued to travel to different countries.
She is survived by her son, Joel Pershall (Diana); daughter, Karen Varkados (Van); grandchildren, Rhonda Burroughs (Greg), Sheila Pershall, Stephanie Vander Wel (Denis) and Alex Vander Wel; great-grandchildren, Devin and Samantha Burroughs, Robert Adkins, and Caleb Peters; and special companion, Robert Campbell.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 21, 1:00 p.m. at 13311 NW 11th Avenue, Vancouver, WA.
