John Melvin Payne, 64, passed away peacefully May 13, 2013 at the Vancouver, WA Veterans Medical Center after a long brave fight with cancer.
John was born September 19, 1948 in Portland, OR. He began his schooling at Woodmere Grade School where he met his future wife, Donna.
After graduating from Benson High School in 1966 he left the following year to serve in the Army during the Vietnam War.
He returned from Vietnam a decorated soldier and completed his apprenticeship as a pipefitter/plumber.
Most of his working career was spent working for The United Association of Plumbers & Pipefitters, Local Union 26 and as a manager at Familian NW.
He was well known for his hard work, helpfulness, and love for his family.
John is survived by his loving wife of 45+ years, Donna Payne; his son, Daryl Payne; daughter, Kristina Payne; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of John's life will be held June 2, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Firstenburg Community Center.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Vancouver Veterans Medical Center for the love, care, and respect John and his family received while he was there.
John will be missed but always in our hearts.
