March 31, 1934 ~ October 14, 2011
Richard Gilcrease was born to John and Lillian Gilcrease in Winnfield, LA where he grew up with two sisters and four brothers. He began traveling the country in his late teens following various construction jobs. This led him to Harlem, MT where he met and married Marjorie Bye, October 10, 1955. He continued to follow the work but never crossed the Mississippi River.
They started their family in Winnfield LA in 1956 and later settled in Brush Prairie WA in 1963 where they raised six children; Renee (Jim) Riggins, Pamela (Stan) Miller, Richard Jr, Jeffrey, Timothy (Barbara) and R Scott (Shannon). He became a welder/pipefitter and joined the Steamfitters Local 290 in 1965. He retired in 1997 and they began wintering in Quartzsite AZ where he enjoyed the weather, reading, and visiting with friends.
He is survived by his wife Margie of 56 years; two sisters; Sylvia Bland and Willie Mae Frazier in LA and one brother, Ben Gilcrease, in AK; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Two daughters, four sons, five granddaughters and ten grandsons and eight great-grandchildren, all in the area. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Rodney Paul, his parents and four brothers; infant Charles, James, Fred and Donny Ray.
A memorial service will be held Saturday October 22, 2011 at 3:00pm at Layne's Funeral Home in Battle Ground WA.
