DOROTHY ELLERTSON
January 5, 1933 ~ October 9, 2010

Born January 5, 1933, Dorothy Ellertson, daughter of Bert and Martha Clark, resided 77 years in Vancouver, Washington. Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed her life of exceptional joy and love for people, guided always by her strong Christian faith. After a valiant battle against cancer, she passed away on Saturday, October 9, at home, surrounded by her family.
Dorothy attended Salmon Creek Grade School and graduated from Vancouver High School in 1950. She completed Nurse's training at Emanuel Hospital in Portland, OR in 1953. Dorothy took great pride in her career as an RN and worked at Vancouver Memorial Hospital, and the Family Physicians Group until 1998.
Dorothy married Bruce Graham in 1953 and they had six children. Bruce preceded Dorothy in death in 1977. She married Pastor Rod Ellertson in 1978 and added his four children to her family. Dorothy was a shining example of a wife and mother and deeply treasured all ten children. Highlights of their active family life included trips to the coast, attendance at hundreds of sporting and school events, birthday and holiday celebrations (especially Christmas!).
Dorothy attended Salmon Creek Methodist Church for 44 years, then attended Highland Lutheran Church in La Center, where her husband was pastor until 1997. She is currently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vancouver, Washington.
Dorothy enjoyed gardening, cooking, travel and playing in Trinity's Bell Choir. She delighted in social events with her many friends.
Her family was her greatest joy.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Pastor Rod Ellertson, at home; sons, Sam (Karen) Ellertson, Michael (Coanne) Graham, Scott (Mandy) Ellertson, Corey (Julie) Graham, Douglas (Cristy) Graham; daughters, Terry (Bob) Kenck, Jane (Ali) Ali, Denise (Tom) Swanson, Julie (Walter) Sidles, Heidi (Joseph) Dombek; twenty-eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brother Ken (Marie) Clark, sisters Marion Cherednik and Irene Payne.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday October 13, 2010 at Vancouver Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 309 W 39th Street, Vancouver at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2010, followed by a luncheon.
