February 24, 1956 ~ June 28, 2010

Randy Walter Backous, 54, passed away on June 28, 2010, in Portland, OR after a brief illness. He was born to William and Ruby Backous on February 24, 1956 and was a twin to Rick Backous. He resided in Vancouver all his life.
Randy was an avid fisherman and most weekends all year long could be found on the Columbia River, Lake Merwin, or Yale with his dad, brothers, and friends. Randy loved the beaches, mountains, rivers, and lakes of Washington State. He was a member of Lake Merwin Campers Hideaway and affectionately known as "Prime Rib".
Employed by Safeway Foods for 36 years, Randy was a meat merchandiser for the SW Washington/Portland and northern Oregon coast areas and will be greatly missed by his longtime Safeway family.
Family was very important to Randy, who is survived by his wife of 34 years, Julie; son, Wesley; daughter, Jennifer; father, William; brothers, Donald, Rick, and Kevin; sister, Cheryl Woodard; and numerous aunts, uncles, and nieces and nephews.
Son Christopher; mother Ruby; sister Nancy Long; and niece Sara Mielke preceded him in death.
A graveside service, open to all, will be held on Tues., July 6, 2010, at noon at Evergreen Memorial Gardens - Garden of Faith. A memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hazel Dell.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the National SIDS Foundation First Candle, 1314 Bedford Avenue, Suite 210, Baltimore, MD 21208.
Randy will be greatly missed by his family and friends,
who envision him in a magnificent Arima teaching Christopher how to fish, along with his dogs, in the sparkling waters of heaven. Fish on, Randy! We will always miss and love you.
