Robert "Bob" Kohl, 81, passed away from a long illness on Aug. 8, 2014 in Vancouver, WA. He was born in Richfield, ID on Aug. 2, 1933. Robert attended North Central High School and Gonzaga University where he obtained a degree in Civil Engineering.
Prior to college, Robert joined the U.S. Navy and then later transferred to the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Alaska, Panama Republic de Panama and North Carolina. He completed his military career by serving in the Army National Guard.
Robert joined the U.S. Forest Service as an engineer after completing his college degree. His passion for engineering led him to a career with Corp of Engineers where he worked on Dworshak Dam in Idaho and Lost Creek Dam along the Rogue River in Oregon. Robert served as a chief engineer for the clean-up of the Cowlitz River after the Mt. Saint Helen's eruption. He retired from the Corp of Engineers in 1988.
Robert is survived by his wife, Rita Cecilia Kohl from Panama; his daughter, Deborah Nutter; his son-in law, Andrew Nutter; grandchildren, Aili and Nathaniel Nutter; brother, Ronald Kohl and sister-in law, Jean Kohl.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Kohl II; mother, Eva Barber; and father, Milton Kohl.
Join Robert's family at a funeral Mass service to be held on Tues., Aug. 19th, 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 400 S. Andresen Rd., Vancouver WA 98661.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations, in Robert's honor, to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
