Bernard "Bernie" Hayden of Vancouver, WA, passed away on August 1, 2014 at Glenwood Memory Care surrounded by family.
He married Irene Peterson Dec. 22, 1949 and remained married for 62 years until her death in 2012.
Bernie worked at Clark County PUD for 30 years, starting as a meter reader and worked his way up to a sales representative.
Together Bernie and Irene raised a family on their small "hobby" farm and managed rental properties that Bernie built himself. In his early years, Bernie was a wonderful duck and goose hunter and loved spending time with his award winning black Labrador, Duchess. As his children grew, he became involved in their activities and became a US Swimming Official, working the swim meets while his kids swam. In his later years, Bernie enjoyed walking and was an avid Volkswalker. He shared his love of walking with his kids and grandchildren alike.
Bernie is survived by his children: Carolyn, James and Christina; grandchildren: Laura, Isaac, Wyatt, Claire and Jennifer; and great-grandchild, Zareck.
Burial Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Wed., Aug. 13, 2014.
