GAYLE JUNE (ELTON) BLAIR
June 28, 1925 ~ July 16, 2014

Born in Webb, Oklahoma on June 28, 1925 to Robert and Cecil Halderman, Gayle June Halderman was the middle of three girls. The family moved to Vancouver, WA around 1940. Gayle was one of the original "Rosie Riveters," working in the Vanport ship yards in World War II.
Gayle married Marvin Elton on Valentine's Day 1946 and they had three children: Sonja, Marlowe, and Nels. They were happily married until Marvin passed away in 1973.
Lucky to find love a second time, Gayle wed Gene Blair in 1979. After retirement they were "snowbirds," packing the cats into the motor home and driving south to spend winters in California. When home in Vancouver, Gayle kept busy sewing, crafting and "goodwill hunting."
Before retiring, Gayle enjoyed working at the VA Hospital for over 20 years. Friendly and outgoing with a wicked sense of humor, Gayle could and would talk to anyone.
Gayle was preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Cecil Halderman; sister, Madge Johnston; first husband, Marvin Elton, and husband, Gene Blair.
Gayle was a loving and doting grandmother to six great grandchildren. She is survived by them as well as her sister, Boby Steele; children: Sonja Thorp (Wes,) Marlowe Elton, Nels Elton, grandchildren: Tonya Elton (Ken Lotka), Tamara Morales (Vicente), Tres Hancock, Miranda Elton, Kristine Elton and Wyatt Elton.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Park Hill Cemetery followed by a picnic reception in David Douglas Park.
