Sheryl "Shari" Lynn Knapp, 49, passed away June 1, 2014 in Vancouver, WA. She was an identical twin, born on Dec. 16, 1964 in Tucson, AZ. She was educated in schools in Oregon and Washington, where she and her twin sister excelled in sports, especially basketball.
After graduation, she entered into a career as a successful jockey. Her name was well known in thoroughbred racing circles in the Pacific Northwest and Hollywood Park. Shari was one of the top five US jockeys to compete with the top five Canadian jockeys in the prestigious Can/Am race in Vancouver, B.C. at Exhibition Park. She was rated one of the top female riders in the United States when she was riding.
Shari is survived by her significant other, Ronald Jewett; her mother, Gloria Knapp (Arizona); father, Neil Knapp (Washington); her identical twin, Karen Knapp; and brother, Kevin Knapp.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Fri., June 6, 2014 at Park Hill Cemetery, Vancouver, WA.
