Alice Adair (Harvey) Ward Wasiuk, 77, of Vancouver, WA, peacefully passed from this world to the loving hands of our heavenly Father on May 19, 2014 at Kaiser Medical Center, Sunnyside, OR. Known by all as Adair, she was the fourth child born in a family of all boys in Belleville, KS on May 27, 1936. Spending her early days in Manhattan, KS, she spent many happy days with her parternal grandparents (Harvey-Tieking) at the family homestead in Westmoreland, KS. At the age of 6, Adair and her family moved to Omaha, NE and at age 10, the family relocated to El Monte, Los Angeles County, CA. Eventually the family moved into the home of their maternal grandmother, (Kimmal) in Highland Park, Los Angeles County, CA to help care for her. Here, Adair attended Luther Burbank Junior High School, Benjamin Franklin High School, and Sawyer Business School.
Adair was hired by the Pacific Electric Railway Company to work in the steno pool in the Real Estate Department at Southern Pacific Railroad in 1961. In 1997, Adair retired from Union Pacific Railroad (formerly Southern Pacific Railroad).
As a divorced mother of 2, she began her career at Southern Pacific Railroad where she met and fell in love with a tall, dark, and handsome co-worker. Chester Zygmund Wasiuk had 4 children of his own. Chester and Adair were married on Feb. 24, 1967 and within 5 years, they blended both their families into one big family with 6 kids. After all the kids were grown and out of the house, Adair and Chester made the choice to sell the Redfield homestead and moved to Upland, CA, then to Hesperia, CA, and then to Denver, CO.
After Adair retired, she and Chester purchased a 5th wheel and traveled around the U.S. for 3 years. In 2000, they eventually settled in Vancouver, WA. Adair joined Cascade Presbyterian Church and became part of the Quilting ministry. She was also talented in crocheting and knitting. Adair also enjoyed researching both her and Chester's family trees. She was instrumental in reuniting Chester with his natural brothers and sisters after 74 years.
Adair leaves her adoring husband, Chester Zygmund Wasiuk; her loving children, Stuart Ward, Mike (Lori) Wasiuk, Sharon Wasiuk Carmen (Gary), Coralee Ward Koning (Michael) and John (Brenda) Wasiuk; 15 grand- children; her dear siblings, Gerry Harvey, Frank (Marilyn) Harvey, Ed Harvey and Ron (Elsie) Harvey; along with many nephews, nieces and cousins throughout the U.S.
