JOAN EVANS SHULTZ
May 28, 1925 ~ April 13, 2012
Joan (pronounced "Joanne") Evans Shultz passed away at age 86, in Vancouver, WA, following emergency abdominal surgery. She was born May 28, 1925, in Danville, PA, to Thomas Lewis and Marguerite (Trump) Evans. She was called "Judy" all her life by relatives and friends because as a baby her maternal grandfather said she looked like the "Judy" puppet in Punch & Judy shows. Judy graduated from Danville High School in 1943 and earned her Nurse's Cap at Geisinger Hospital, Danville, PA.
Joan married her high school sweetheart, Donald Yeager Shultz, on Dec. 30, 1944. They lived in Philadelphia and Riverside, PA, before moving west to Coolidge, AZ, and then to Steilacoom, WA in 1955. They lived in Steilacoom for over 20 years before following their daughters to the Portland-Vancouver area. Don preceded her in death on October 7, 1992.
Judy loved engaging in the lives of everyone she met and maintained close childhood friendships as well as making new friends up to the day she died.
She was a devoted mother and "Nana" and was so happy that all her immediate family lived near her in the Portland-Vancouver area, including her daughters, Donna (David) and Robin; granddaughters, Heather (Alex) and Molly (Dan); and five great-grandchildren, Oliver, Sam, Kia, Ken and Seva. One of her greatest joys was cooking for her family and friends. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Evans Pivnicki of Jupiter, FL; nieces, Marion, Pam and Libby; nephew, Steven; cousin, Anne; and the many friends she made through the years. She will be greatly missed.
Private family services will be held with interment at Willamette National Cemetery.
