WILLIAM "BILL" SHERERTZ, JR.
February 4, 1946 ~ January 21, 2011
"Anything but typical, whatever Bill did he made it extraordinary. He was a man of honor and integrity; he will be missed."
William "Bill" Sherertz, Jr. of Battle Ground, WA, passed away on Jan. 21, 2011. He was born Feb. 4, 1946 in Upland, CA to William and Dorothy (Winters) Sherertz and raised in Bandon, OR.
Bill attended both Willamette and Oregon State University, graduating from OSU in 1965. He played Baseball for OSU in college and recently reconnected with Coach Casey and the Beavers baseball club.
In 1980 he became CEO of Barrett Business Services which he ran successfully for the rest of his life. He was fond of saying that he was "just a small town Bandon boy". This small town boy built Barrett Business Services Inc, a billion dollar, publicly traded company, from the ground up.
Bill was an avid golfer, and loved to fish and hunt. Traditionally, he set out to Eastern Oregon every year in search of "the big boys", accompanied by his family and closest friends. Most recently he purchased the old Parker House with the dream of creating a restaurant where people could gather and enjoy good food and wine in a comfortable atmosphere.
Whatever he did, he aimed to be the best and his successes are too numerous to list them all here. Husband, father, CEO, philosopher, restaurateur, hunter, drag racer, mentor, philanthropist, gambler, friend, and pirate 200 hundred years too late would be a start.
Bill is survived by his wife of 14 years, Kimberly Sherertz; four children, Sarah, Alex, Elizabeth and Cole; and his niece Jamie.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy; father, "Billie"; brother, Bob; and son, Jason.
Funeral services will be held Jan. 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Summit View Church, 7701 NE 182nd Ave., Vancouver, WA 98682.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Doernbecher Children's Hospital or Vancouver Chapter of Ducks Unlimited.

Kim, Cole, E, Alex and Sarah,
Mr. Bill was a true gem and I will miss him dearly. My first day at BBSI, 14 years ago, I rolled into the parking lot with a blown head gasket. What a fortuitous twist of fate it was. I couldn't have picked a better place to park. Love always. Marianne

I grew up in Bandon, Oregon with Bill Sherertz and his brother Bob. His mom Dorothy did my hair. I was not allowed to really date boys but my father let me go to my Junior Prom with Bill because he obviously trusted Bill and thought very highly of him. Bill was kind enough to go through the interview with my dad before the date. I remember Bill always being ahead of the game. Highly intelligent and his entrepreneurship is of no surprize to any of us that knew him. My best to his family. Bill will be missed. Terrie Burness (Cox)

Dear Kim,
I never had the opportunity to let Bill know what an inspiration he was to me and my family. Working for BBSI for 8 years, I have valued his principles of success and focus on family. My family has had many pleasures in this life because of Bill's vision and ideas. My thoughts and prayers will always be with you and your children.

To Bill's family: A long time and so many events have passed since Bill and my high school days in Bandon. What an extraordinary life he led. In the coming days, may Bill's family and friends be comforted by shared memories and the grace that goes beyond understanding. Rev. Pamela J. Tinnin, or as he knew me, Pam Turner, Bandon High School Class of '64.

I only met Bill once and though he was wildly successful in so many ways, I was struck by his sense of fun and genuineness. I felt like he was one of the "good guys". To you Kim and your family, sincere best thoughts from Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts. I'm sure that soon, great memories will bring smiles to your faces again.
