VERNICE "SKEETS" LOFTUS HOGAN
March 6, 1920 ~ March 16, 2018
Born Vernice Louise Meier, she was known by her family and friends as "Skeets", and she passed away Friday, March 16, 2018 at the age of 98 years.
Born near Bay City, Michigan on March 6, 1920 to German immigrant parents Charles and Agnes (Krieger) Meier, Vernice was the third of their six children. Moving to the Pacific Northwest, the family settled in the Ridgefield, Washington area where they made their living as hard-working farmers.
Due to an automobile accident, Vernice's first husband Rollie Farrell was not expected to live long when they married, but the two enjoyed their two and a half years together before he passed away.
On January 17, 1949, Vernice married William "Bill" Loftus. Together they had two children, Loren and Debbie, and were happily married 35 years until his passing from cancer in 1984.
Vernice married once again, an old family friend Curtis Hogan, on February 22, 1989. After 20 years of marriage, Curtis passed away from cancer.
Skeets was a great cook, and loved to welcome everybody to her home and table. She was known for her warm smile, and always making the best of every situation. She valued her friends, notable and remarkably maintaining a close friendship with a childhood neighbor, Betty Holcomb, for over 80 years. She loved her caregivers at Glenwood Senior Living, and appreciated everything that they did for her. One caregiver, "Cricket", held a special place in her heart.
Skeets is survived by her children, Loren (Jeanne) Loftus of Onalaska, Debbie Owens of Vancouver, six grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She has one surviving sister, Marian Blevins of Vancouver, and a special niece and nephew, Terry Huffman of Bremerton and Michael Gibson of Vancouver.
A memorial service celebrating Vernice "Skeets" Hogan's life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 24 at Majesty Baptist Church, 4613 NE St. Johns Road, Vancouver, Washington.

Debbie and Loren, I just wanted you to know I read about your mother's passing in the paper. You have my deepest sympathy. We lost mine many years ago but I still remember how hard it was on all five of us "kids".
It sounds like your mom was quite a wonderful lady. My prayers and thoughts are with you both and your families.

Aunt Skeets always had a smile and was so beautiful inside and out. I will treasure my hot pads she crocheted. Wish I could have seen the welcoming committee that greated her in Heaven.

Will always remember your precious smile! You will be missed dearly. You were known for making the room light up even when nobody expected it. Please accept my deepest Condolences to the loss of a loved one; that she touched in so many ways more than one.

My condolences to the family of this fine woman. I loved the sound of her voice and laugh and remember her so well as a family friend and my mother's Avon lady. She will be missed by many.

My beautiful grandma...what an amazing, loving, feisty, loving, funny, loving, fabulous and loving woman!!! Did I mention loving? She raised two loving children...has six fantabulous grandkids, just ask us and I lost track of all the great grandkids...but each and every single one of us knew we were loved, always welcome in her home and got THE BEST hugs! I am so blessed to have spent as much time with my grandma, that she gave me 40+ years of wonderful memories to hold me over til I see her again! Grandma Skeets was the most amazing woman that I have known...giving the world 98+ years of love, joy, lots of laughter and full tummies. Loving and missing you Grandma!
