THOMAS RICHARD SCHINDLER
April 2, 1951 ~ February 15, 2018

Thomas Richard Schindler passed away February 15, 2018, at 66 years old. He was born in Vancouver, WA in 1951 to Roberta Rae (Birdie) Schindler and Merwin Leroy (Steve) Schindler.

Thomas was employed by the U. S. Postal Service before retiring.

He loved his family, the beach, and cribbage. He grew up in Fruit Valley in a large family and attended Vancouver schools, graduating from old Fort Vancouver High School.

Thomas proudly served his country in the Vietnam War for three tours, in country, as a Navy gunner's mate. He was awarded a Vietnam Service medal with one Bronze Star, a National Defense Service medal, and a Combat Action Ribbon.

His urn will be placed in a columbaria military honors on March 15, 2018, 11 a.m. in a private family ceremony at the Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, OR.

Thomas is survived by his son, Steven R. (Jennifer) Schindler; grandson, Joseph (Madison); granddaughter, Heather; and great-grandson, Sage, all of Vancouver.

He is also survived by his sisters, Kay Schindler and MaryBeth Kelly; and brothers, Sonny, Bill (Gail), all of Vancouver and Don (Judy) Schindler, Coos Bay, OR. His brother, Terry Schindler and sister, Deanna Schindler preceded him in death.
