I was a teacher for Evergreen School District some years ago when I first became aware of the 'Rubbelke' family...was honored to be able to teach some of their children...saddened to hear of the unexpected loss of one of their extended family, doing what he enjoyed, and that, indeed, I believe Tom is just around the bend, with his hand outstretched, waiting for you, Lynelle and Nathan, eagerly, with great joy...Ted Grimsted

Tom when I heard of your passing it brought tears to my eyes. I worked with you for 7 years at the Benson hotel and for every one of those days I saw you in passing or in the break room you were always so positive&pleasant and knew how to brighten my day somehow ....it was a real pleasure to work with you and consider you a friend& I know I'm not the only one who feels this way...I spoke with my mother about your passing she reminded me that you were doing exactly what you loved doing which was hiking and so many of us will not have the chance to pass in a manner or way of our choice or what we love to do...So in some small way that helps ease my heart&lighten the sadness of your loss&if we all think that Tom was just doing what he loved doing then hopefully it will help others with their grieving as well. My heart goes out too Mrs.Duhigg and family I am truly sorry for your loss...please know that Tom was a genuine gentleman and a class act and this world will not be the same without him he will be sorely missed. RIP Tom...love ya lots buddy& someday we shall meet again¢½your friend Tara

I worked with Tom for many years at the Benson Hotel and he was always a pleasure to be around. If there was something that needed to be done it was always done immediately and done well. And he was a great person to know and will surely be missed.

My hair clients are like family to me and so I will very much miss the chats Tom and I shared. We would always talk about how lucky we were in life. I love that when Tom talked of family and even work that he always had all good things to say. We could all learn from his positive mindset. My thoughts and prayers are with his family now. I'm so sorry for your tragic loss. Love to you all~Terreca Meagher

Tom and I hiked together a few times over the past four years. Most recently we hiked to the summit of Kings Mountain, on March 28th.
Tom inspired me in many ways! He was a great companion and I always enjoyed his company. I am grieved by his passing. My prayers and thoughts are with Tom and his family.

I never met Tom personally, but I always enjoyed his posts on his adventures in the outdoors on the internet. He was loved by many in the outdoor community and his knowledge and input will be missed by many that didn't have the chance to know him personally. My condolences to his family, may he rest in peace.

We are so sad to hear of Tom's passing. We were happy that we got to have a very good visit with him when he was back in Iowa for Eva's burial. I will always remember Tom when all the cousins got together at Grandma & Grandpa Fowlers farm as the little blonde headed boy with a sweet smile who loved playing outside. I was so sorry to hear about Tom. I will miss stopping to chat and joke on my way back from the mail box and sticking my head over the fence and asking him what was on the BBQ. I'm honored to have experienced his sense of humor, what a nice guy he was, and having a great neighbor as him. My most sincere condolences to Lynelle, Nathan and other family members and friends.
