SUSAN ANN SMITH GARRETT
November 14, 1952 ~ April 4, 2011
"Susan was known for her cheerfulness,
her love of people, her serving heart, and her great smile."
Susan Ann Smith Garrett, of Keller, TX, our beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend left this earthly home on April 4, 2011. She was born on Nov. 14, 1952, to Wayne and Odessa Smith in Ogden, UT, and grew up in Portland, OR.
Susan attended Portland State University, where she drove her and her friends around in a red 1959 Ford gas guzzler with wings.
After marrying Frank, she moved to Vancouver, WA and it was there she welcomed her two sons, Paul and Chris. Besides her favorite job of being a mom, Susan worked as an Administrative Assistant, and then as travel coordinator for Columbia Ultimate where she was affectionately known as "Travel Babe."
Susan came to Texas in 2000 and it was here she became "Aunt Susan", not only to her nieces and nephews, but to the youth at church and many of the sports teams at Fossil Ridge High School.
Before the limitations of Huntington's disease, Susan had never met an adventure she didn't like. She loved to play games, read, laugh, craft, cook, and most of all dance, before she had to retire her high heels.
Besides the sparkle in her eyes and her great smile,
the thing that will be missed the most is her hugs…
lucky you if you were on the receiving end!
Susan's family would like to thank all who tenderly cared for her at Mimosa Manor in Keller, and all her friends who instantly became part of Susan's extended family.
Those who will miss her most are her sons, Paul and Chris Garrett; her brothers and sisters, Dennis (and Sheila) Smith, Jeff Smith, Linda (and Mike) Stratton, and Teri (and Kelly) Thomas; step-father, Calvin Russell; many nieces and nephews; and friends from Columbia Ultimate in Vancouver, WA.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Fri., April 15, at the Keller LDS Chapel, 2001 Willis Lane, Keller, TX. Graveside services will follow at Bourland Cemetery.
Lucas Funeral Home in Keller is in charge of arrangements.

I have so many fun memories of Susan spending the night with Gayla at our home. She never treated me like that tag along little sister but always included me. I loved her smile and laughter. Even before she left for Texas, she and Sharon came to my mom's home to play Mexican Domino's with us, and we spent the night laughing! I hope Chris and Paul and the rest of the family will feel Heavenly Father's arms around them at this time.

I will miss Susan very much. We met in the 6th grade and became best friends through Jr. High and High school. We talked on the phone every day and would send notes back and forth between classes. She would always have a 4-6 page note to pass on to me. I remember that she had very beautiful hand writing. We learned about boys together and had many long discussions about the various boys around us. We always kept in touch even when I moved to Arizona. I was so happy to be around her again when I moved back this way. She loved her boys so very much. She always kept me informed about them and her brothers and sisters even after she moved to Texas. Our family loved the Smith family and we are so sad that some of them had to suffer through the Hunningtons disease. My thoughts and prayers are with all of her family who are grieving her loss. I hope she knew that I loved her as a great friend. The last time I talked to her, I couldn't understand her but I told her that I loved her. I will miss her.
Love,

Susan was such a dear friend. I have fond memories of sharing love and laughter in our book club, church activities, shopping and especially how loving she was to my kids as she helped us when we went out of town. We missed her so much when she moved to Texas. To Paul and Chris and all of Susan's family - we loved her and extend our sincere condolences to you all.

Susan lighted up the room with her smile and laughter - she blessed the lives of all who knew her! I feel so grateful that God put her into my life, and gave us many years of fun and laughter, tears and sadness, encouragement and support - I will never forget her, and will be forever thankful for her friendship. She will be greatly missed.
My love and prayers to Paul and Chris, and to all of the family!
Sincerely,
Ivy
